and do you eat the Fondont or do you take it off?

I'm experimenting a fondont cake and not sure how to do it.. help me out

You can frost the cake first, but it will apply smoother and easier by just basting the cake lightly, and not completely icing it. Also, you can eat the fondant. Some brands/recipes taste better than others obviously. Try to find a white chocoalte fondant for best taste. Most craft stores sell it pre-made, and all are edible. It gives a GREAT finished look. Good luck!

P.S. I was recently reading a cook book that recomended not only a thin layer of frosting, but even to apply a glaze such as apricot to make the fondant work best. Haven't tried it yet, but thought it was interesting.

You can butter cream between layers, but not on the outside of the cake...the fondant will not attach; yes, eat the fondant, but make sure it's edible! Some of the stuff is really bad unless some correctly!
