Can you tell me who wrote this poem although there are differnt versions of it?

in deepest sleep one night i dreamed
that on the beach i walked
God was by my side each step
and quietly we talked.
then on the sky my life was flashed;
the vivions all serene.
two sets of footprints in the sand
were there in every scene.
but then i noticed in some scenes
of suffering, pain, and strife...
just a single set of footprints
at the worst times of my life.
"God...you said you'd stay by me
in good times and in bad...
why then did you leave me
each time my life was sad?"
"My precious child," God answered
"when your life had pain, i knew;
the single set of footprints
were the times I carried you"

(I love this poem!)

No I don't know who wrote it. But it is so beautiful I felt so moved when I read it. I love my Lord. speaking of poems, I write as well.
But mine are nothing compared to footprints,

I just want to say that I'm not Christian and I have always thought that this is an absolutely beautiful and inspiration poem. I don't know if I've EVER seen an author's name on it through. It might be by the famous, "Anonymous"!

This poem has been around for years. My hubby (a Pastor) says a lady has proven that she was the author several different times, but I know it's signed anonymous. So who really knows? It is beautiful isn't it?

I have this feeling that the person does not want attention called to himself or herself so they wanted to share something without getting credit for it.
