Hi All,

This question is for serious people only please.

I plan to get a Dachshund in about a month or two, are these kind of dogs only a "One" person dog, or a family dog?

The Web doesn't say much, just says loves family, okay?? That's doesn't help.

Any Dachshund owners?

It depends on the temperament on the Dachshund. If they were raised wth children the are most likely more family dogs than those who werent socialized with children at an early age.

dogs are pack animals regardless of breed. Dogs who are a 'one person dog' just aren't sociallized with other people and can get very aggressive to other people.
I had a friend who had 2 dachshunds and they were great dogs.. loved everyone. never met a stranger

My dachshund loves my entire family, even the ones that live far away. She is very protective of my fiance and me. By far the best dog I know.

I have a dachsie (7yrs old). If you plan on giving it loads of attention then having one is okay. I have 3 dogs, two cats, and they all get along great. My dachsie loves to be "the only one" and have her "sisters" around too. She is very docile, makes a great lap dog, and loves to cuddle with the others. It depends on what you are looking for. She was first and we introduced the others to her as pups so she bacame somewhat of a nurturer too. We have an 82 lb. German shepard mix who is the youngest of the brood, and they play great together.

they can be either. depends on the dog and how it is handled. I have known both. they are very smart and sensitive. if you have a family have everyone take turns feeding, walking, playing with. with age and time allow the pup to see more of you - that is if you want the dog to bond only with you. this is true of all breeds. children can pour the pups water in it's bowl and offer a piece of kibble with those cute little fingers that will be eagerly licked clean. allow the family to lay on the floor for a little puppy nap. what size are you getting? I love miniatures. don't have the spine issues of the regular size. enjoy! one of my favorite breeds.

Actually, they are both. But sometimes, they want to be left alone.
It all depends on the way you train it.
My Aunt has a 10 yr old dachshund and she is very well behaved.

I have a Doxie and he is the best little dog ever. He is friendly and loves my other dog (a hyper Schnauzer). He loves everyone, but sometimes just wants to be left alone. They love attention and love to be with you - sometimes really close. They are great watchdogs and are fearless. At one point my little Roscoe defended me, putting his own life in danger. I'm telling you, you can't go wrong with a Doxie. They are wonderful, loving and smart dogs.

my experence with my two full blooded dachshunds. is that they become very teritorial and do not get along with children very well. the only thing i would say is it is that way with mine b/c they are not around kids very much. i would think if the puppy is raised with the kids they would get along with them.
