I want my son to get more interaction with other kids his age, any ideas on classes or recreation programs i can sign him up for. Keep in mine he is only 27 mo old and is just barely learning to follow directions. Or maybe is he too young?

Contact your local parks department. Ours has some low cost classes for toddlers and preschoolers that are great. Some are "mommy and me" type classes where you do things to work on coordination, some are music oriented, sign language, Spanish, nature, etc. They have a series of free nature classes and also do free fire safety classes.

Contact your local library and ask about story times and craft times for 2 year olds.

See if your local Children's Museum or zoo has any toddler or preschooler classes.

Our YMCA has "micro" sports programs, but they usually don't start until age 3.

Gymboree or toddler focused gymnastic classes.

no, your son isn't too young. my son is 28 months old and currently he is taking a sports class on Saturdays with his dad. it is 45 minutes and they introduce a new sport each week. Admittedly, my husband complained that he wasn't that into it the first 4 weeks but he was having some sleep issues than and the last 3 weeks has been great. He talks about baseball (actually he just says "baseball" when ever he sees a game, hat, or ball.

What I'm saying is look into park district classes or community events. They are perfect for him to interact. I had the same problem with my son, I signed him up for a tumbling class with his twin sister. Some weeks he loved it, others were a nightmare.

What I have noticed is that he likes to watch others and he is learning to take turns. I imagine that you are interested in this as well. I'll bet that he would really like a class, even if it is a swimming, tumbling, or even an interactive music class. He'll love it, but don't expect him to love it every week. He will likely have to get used to it (unless you are lucky).

I think you will like to watch him in a different environment and his curiosity, and vocabulary will take off.

Enjoy!

swimming is all I can think of... if you wait until he is 4 or 5, he could start playing football or baseball. if you are looking for a way to get him active, take a family walk (if you have a place to).

Swimming. Do they have any "Babies and Me" Groups? Those are for moms and the babies too!
