Well, when god created the cat, god remembered to include Cleanliness in its programing. But when god created the dog, god forgot to finish or got distracted, which is why dogs poop all over creation and fart when you least expect it.
Its strange, for all the years I've had a cat or two, not a single one of them have ever farted. Though I have heard and seen dogs do it from time to time.

I don't think I intended to start a fight, but some of the responses are hilariously funny.

Except for one, I think we should all Ignore this person in the future.

you're right, when you point your finger a dog would look and might go to investigate.
while a cat, would look at you finger, then look at where you're pointing,.. and think; Yeah, right - why should I go there, do I look stupid, do you think I'm crazy.

I think they're a different kind of clever... usually. I have a Norwegian Forrest Cat and when we got him our other cat was so outraged that she initially wanted nothing to do with him. He'd hang out with our dog instead. She's part St. Bernard and part Mastiff, so she is HUGE. It looked absurd to see that little kitten curled up with that giant dog.

As he got older he acted more and more like a dog... he'd run to the door when the bell rang and whenever we walked the dog he wanted to go to, so we got a harness and a leash and started taking him out too. The entire neighborhood got a huge kick out of it.

One day, he was sitting in an open window when the mail carrier arrived and as I took the package he said, "I swear your cat just barked at me!" It's really more of a brief grunt that's just a small part of his vocabulary of yowls, trilling sounds and such. He even makes a noise that sounds like a pig's oink.

And for the record, our prissy, dainty Maine Coon does indeed pass gas quite audibly. It usually startles her and she runs to escape it, which is hysterical.

C'mon now! Not all dogs "poop all over creation". If a dog is going in the house it's usually a case of bad owner, instead of bad dog. More frequent walks or some remedial training may be in order. My dog would do anything to avoid going anywhere but outside. A doctor's appointment took longer than expected a few weeks ago because they suddenly decided I needed a CT scan. We were gone for six hours and she's an old lady at 12 1/2 years, but she was standing at the door quivering in anticipation.

I love the heated arguments stirred up between "dog people" and "cat people". I'm both, so I usually mediate. *L* I like the loyalty of a dog. Minnie (the Mastiff/St. Bernard) only scares strangers for a few seconds because of her size, after that she's usually licking them. We joke that if someone broke in she'd show them where we keep the silver. On the other hand, our Pug, Valet (because he looks as though he's been chasing parked cars), is my constant body guard and strike fear in heart of new people entering our home... well, at least, until they see the source of the noise, anyway.

However, I also respect the fact that cats are picky about the people with whom they will associate. They make you work to earn the right to have them in your lap. *L*

They both seems to have about the brainpower of a human three year old, but they're wired differently.

For example, point to something and a dog will understand and look where you're pointing. A cat will just look at your finger. The dog might seem smarter.

On the other hand, how many dogs have you heard of that could figure out on their own how to use a toilet and flush it when they're finished? I won't claim that's typical feline behavior, but numerous cats have done that.

Dogs seem to be more easily trained than cats. Whether that means cats or dogs are smarter is open to interpretation!

Cats seem to be better at training humans.

Cats and dogs, like any species, show a wide range of individual differences in their intelligence. I've known some dogs and cats that were amazingly intelligent, and I've known dogs and cats that weren't very bright at all, to put it kindly.

I don't think your question has a definitive answer.

Cats are smarter than dogs, I think. It depends on the specific animal, as I have known a pretty clever dog (or perhaps devious would be a better word)...
I think that a major difference between the species that dog people don't understand is: a cat won't kiss your ***. If you feed a dog, and don't harm it, it will love you & will bend over backwards trying to figure out how to make you happy.
A cat does what it wants. If a cat snuggles with you or is affectionate with you, it's because it loves you, not because it thinks it'll make you happy. A cat also has to respect you. It's possible to feed a cat & not have it love you. I think a cat has a sense of wether a person respects & understand it, and a cat needs to be understood & respected.
And CATS DO FART!

Cats fart, but usually it is quiet and normally it is because they had milk in their diet.
I think cats have their moments of just being really great animals, they come to you when you are sad, they can keep you warm, they can figure things out, and they are clean, well most of the time.
Dogs are loyal, and can defend a person, it is hard for a cat to even compete in those ways, but dogs need attention in ways cats don't and they also are dirty.
Each animal has it's own uniqueness and that is why I like both but in different ways.

Scientists ran a organization of checks to check this. They determined that cats seemed to continue matters larger and had been equipped to determine matters out. They had a room with meals hung from the ceiling out of achieve. The puppies endured to leap, looking to get the meals. When they placed the cats into the room, they determined that the cats manuevered one of the packing containers within the room to beneath the meals in order that they might achieve the meals. In an additional scan the meals was once in the back of a wall, the animals needed to cross by way of a distinct set of motions to get the meals. Both puppies and cats had been informed how you can get the meals. Then they had been taken out of the room for approximately an afternoon. When they had been placed again within the room, the cats remembered the motions to get the meals, the puppies needed to be retrained. I consider the scan confirmed that the cats had been equipped to determine matters out and consider larger seeing that they had to be seeing that they're a extra independant animal. Whereas the puppy is mainly aspect of of percent, so it depends on its percent associates to support it. Which, while a puppy turns into a member of a loved ones, we turn out to be its percent mate(s). While the cat stays independant even if this is a puppy. I do not consider the checks quite confirmed whether or not one is extra sensible than the opposite.

i think both animals are programmed differently.

to me, cats are not loyal to you; dogs are. dogs can be trained, but not cats.

they are just two very different animals, each smart in its own way.

if you talk about farting, maybe cats have a better digestive system. they just eat, and whoosh, it just comes out!

The difference between dogs and cats.
A dog thinks:
Hey, these people I live with feed me, love me. provide me with a nice warm, dry house, pet me, and take good care of me...
They must be Gods!
A cat thinks:
Hey, these people I live with feed me, love me, provide me with a nice warm, dry house, pet me, and take good care of me...
I must be a God!
