Well, Windows XP is one of the most exciting operating systems there has ever been. If you want to upgrade to Win XP from Me, you can do it, it costs $99.99* to upgrade...but...

Now, if you want to wait until Vista comes out, I'm sure there will be many bugs at the beggining of the release, so I think you should wait 2-4 months after the Vista release to upgrade.

So, if you think you will be able to afford upgrading for both OS, the go ahead :)

windows xp is a much better and safer environment than windows me, (for a windows computer) however windows vista is coming out soon, depends on if you want to pay the higher price for the newest version. Also, if you grab the newest version of an OS, then you will have to deal with all the bugs they are still working out. but it could still be better in the long run. but definitely get out of windows me. they are difficult to fix and don't use the ntfs file system, which is what makes them alot less secure.

Windows ME is not great but then again it's from Microsoft. If you are really yearning for pain try XP. Even on a new machine it sucks. You would be better off putting on any of the Puppy Linux programs or even which are free or even purchasing Redhat Linux.

I would want to get rid of ME as fast as possible, however since you will probably need to upgrade your computer to run Vista, I would wait and buy a computer with Vista on it. XP is fine, but if you are going to upgrade you might as well go all the way.

XP takes a lot of memory- be careful and somethings you have now, like Printers may not work- I great Canon printer would not work on XP, no driver, no update for it.
