While I love Nikon cameras, I'd suggest the Canon A620 for your dad. We did a lot of shopping while trying to stay in the under $400 range and this is exactly what we bought for our adult son before he went on a trip to Europe. For that money, you can get the camera and a one gigabyte memory card. The A620 lets you control everything, if you know how, or it takes great shots in several automatic modes. This has been the Comcast Shopping Top Choice for months now. It uses "AA" batteries, too.

I got the Casio Exilim z-750. I think they're up to the 850 now... great camera. It's very small, costs under $400, and the battery seems to last forever before I have to charge it.

I'm not a great photographer, but my pictures are turning out better than ever!

Try the Kodak easyshare camera it is user friendly and your dad would like it as well it comes with the software, zoom lens and you can buy an extra memory card for it and it is a great price. It can also be used as a web cam if needed.

Fuji FINEPIX S3000 and above because of:

-its quality (specially during photos taken at night)
