I've had several types of birds, but in my experience caging different breeds together is very dangerous. I've also had many birds of different species that have become friends and bonded. However, even though these birds were very good friends, they had occassional fights. A parakeet is much smaller than a cockatiel, and this would be a great disadvantage to the parakeet if discord erupts. A friend of mine caged a conure with a cockatiel, and it appeared to be successful for appx. a year or so. However, one morning she found the conure had chewed off the cockatiels foot. So, I would strongly advise against this. I would house them in seperate cages. But, you could allow them to spend supervised time outside of their cages and maybe they will become friends.

If you are keeping pairs, DON'T keep them in the same cage. Breeding birds become very territorial, and you WILL have problems... big problems. Do a little research on bird breeding if you're serious about breeding either- until then, keep the cockatiels and the parakeets in seperate cages.

p.s. To breed cockatiels and parakeets in the same area, the cage would neeed to be HUGE... room sized!

I would be very careful doing this. We have had parakeets and cockatiels since I was little, and mixing them can bring mixed results. The most recent event had our cockatiel reaching through the bars of the cage and pecking the parakeet to death while nobody was home. I would not put them together unless you start them as babies.

Absolutely not. Parakeets are very aggressive and they will make your cockatiels uncomfortable. If you absolutely need to pair different species together, I would put the cockatiels with the finches. This of course would only happen if there was plenty of space.

I have had both in the same cage they w/be fine! I had a Latino and a Cinnamon Cocktail w/a blue parakeet and green parakeet w/no problems.......... Just put there two cages next to each other for a few days before you put them all in the same cage and make sure the cage is large enough to accommodate both.

I would be a little leary of doing that. It's possible in a large aviary to keep tiels and keets together. But I wouldn't do it in a cage. The cockatiels are likely to really pick on the keets...possibly kill them. As for Keets and finches....definately not. On is a hook bill and the other is a wax billed bird. The finches won't be able to defend themslelves.

No and No for both. Birds should never be mixed with each other and someone will forsure get hurt.

My keets and tiel fight like crazy and never will even be together in a cage ever.

I don't know I'd be too scared that they might not get along and fight I don't want to wake up with a stiff bird at the bottom of the cage...

birds can live in the same cage together but they won't interact with humans as much if you do----
if you want your birds...espec your cockatiels to interact with you--then you shouldn't cage them together!
