Absolutely not! Going to middle school is just another adjustment in life. If this person is "scared" of going to middle school, should they also be "scared" of high school and college? No way! Just give it time and do your best to adjust. Don't worry what other kids think about you, just be yourself. When I went through the adjustment phase, I found it was easier to be myself than try to be someone I was not. This is another way to see who people really are. Have you ever had a friend that was really cool when it was just the two of you and when you interacted with other people they changed? Same philosophy.

There should really be no fear in attending middle school. There should be some excitement in going "moving up" into the world. If young people would learn to surround themselves with positive people who they could express themselves and their issues, fear would be the last enemy. Middle school is fun! As a middle school teacher - I think we tend to 'coddle' our students a little too much - but I understand they still have Mommy-complexes and at the same time want to grow up really fast. I think the best thing a 'teacher' can do is understand that and allow the student to grow into who they eventually will become. Don't be scared. It's going to be GREAT and a wonderful experience.

My two daughters survived middle school with few or no scary experiences. However, boys seem more likely to undergo physical bullying, and they sometimes have to defend themselves by using force. It's good for boys to have a Dad or other trusted male adult to talk to about how best to handle such problems.

If the fear is just nervousness over a new situation, that is normal. If it is causing the person to consider using means to avoid going, they should talk to a trusted adult.

well, there's always the completely innocent kids that get shot & killed while they are trying to get a decent education.... your fears teach you where not to go and what not to do.

people also have basic instincts and assumptions about whether something going on is wrong or not. use those and guide yourself carefully.
