Lemon will lighten any color hair. But the darker the hair, the uglier the highlight. Lemon will only lighten the color by a 1/2 shade at most each time you use it. You would have to apply and lighten 10 times to get to a decent color. There are stages or levels of lightening. Each stage is considered a level. They are Darkest Brown, Brown/Red, Red, Red/Orange, Orange, Orange/Yellow, Yellow, Pale Yellow, and White. So if you apply lemon to Darkest Brown hair, (no such thing as true black color hair) you would lighten the hair a 1/2 shade, to a Brassy Brown Red. Do it again and you'd get a brassy Red color. Do it again and you'd get a brassy Red/Orange color. As a side note it doesn't matter how long you leave the lemon on your hair, Once it dries, it stops working, so you have to keep applying to keep lightening. The underlying colors when lightening, never look good, they always look "raw". If you want to put some excitement in your color, I would suggest using a semi permanent color, like Clairol Natural Instincts and change the tone of your hair. Make it warmer by using a Golden color to it, or funky with a mahogany color. Lemon is not the answer, it just leaves the raw color undertones in the hair. Hope this helps?

I have black hair and have used lemon juice on my hair. It made my hair lighten a little with a reddish hue. The more you put on, the lighter it gets, but it will be a reddish/orangy tinge. The key is to spray it on your hair and then sit in the sun.

It made my hair sticky and feel kind of stiff. I was not impressed with this method at all. Sun-In was even worse and harsher!

Maybe you should try Henna products - they won't damage your hair as badly...

Lemon juice will produce minimal lightening. With black hair, it might not even be noticeable. I think lemon juice works for those with blonde hair who want to lighten it up for the summer.

chamomile tea and drying it under the sun worked with my cousin, but she had a dark brown hair. but on the other hand chamomile made it lil stiff so you need to condition it. i recommend Henna it is good for the hair but becarful coz it lasts and hard to redye using the chemicals if in case you didnt like the color of henna!
