in basic body language terms when a person does this to anyone it means that they are saying 'this is mine its a possession leave it alone'.. but in awkward dating mode it is a question that is asking 'will I be rejected' and its a first step into crossing the barriers ....body language always has basic meanings that go back to the times when people couldn't talk with everyone else
