It is arrogant to claim the bible is truth or true, rather then I believe it to be true, as you cannot know that. It is also arrogant to claim god chooses Christians to go into heaven, as again you cannot know that. This is why it is called a faith!

Very much so.

When the science community makes a discovery or modifies a theory they publish a paper for all to view, speculate on, and debate. Invariably such discoveries open up our simplistic minds and expand our horizons. Examples would be the works of Einstein and Hawking, to name a very small sample.

So why do preachers have to continually pump their one theory (God exists) down our throats? Why do they stand on street corners and hand out leaflets, yell at passers by, gather huge crowds and push unsuspecting victims over in the belief they will be cured of whatever mental or physical ailment invades them, if they just believe in the theory of God?

Why can’t the believers of religious theory just behave in a decent manner, in much the same way as the scientific community does?

Unfortunately, some Christians are arrogant. People of other faiths are sometimes arrogant too. The atheists who have posted comments on Yahoo Answers are sometimes arrogant. If the Christians don't believe the Bible is true, then what is their purpose for being a Christian? Same with the Koran and Muslims, etc. If the atheists don't believe there is no God, then what's the point of them being an atheist? You can call it faith or beliefs or whatever, but everyone has them, whether they believe in God, Allah, Buddha or no god. I think atheism is just as much a religion as any other, not because they don't believe in a god, but because they have a belief system that is based on religion, albeit the falseness of religion. This debate will never end, you know. Does it matter that much anyway? I'm not sure.

Actually it is not arrogant to claim that the Bible is true. As faith properly defined biblically is "to be sure of what you hope for and certain of what you do not see", and if your certain of something it is as good as knowing it. So they can know that the Bible is true or feel they do.

Try to see it this way, I cannot see oxygen but I damn well hope its there and I'm pretty certain it is and before certain instruments were invented no one could prove it was there but many knew it was there!!!

If a Christian does have faith then to them the Bible is truth, it is more arrogant to label others as arrogant because you do not understand where they are coming from. Also, if a someone claims to be a good Christian its certain that the person will believe that only Christian go to heaven unless what is the point of being a Christian?

It may not be completely logical but show me a religion which is. If you're going to argue on arrogance on that bases then all religious people no matter the religion are arrogant, are they not? And before you accuse me of being arrogant I'm agnostic.

It isn't just limited to Christians. All faiths can claim they are the "chosen". And you are so right, it is called "faith", and that is all it is. No one know the real answer.

I wouldn't claim all members of ANY religion are arrogant, but, I agree with you that there are quite a few who are. After all, if that weren't true, there wouldn't be so many wars. Religion is at the base of almost every war. The wars in the Middle East, the wars in Northern Ireland, the attacks of 9-11, as well as the U.S.'s arrogant resolve to change the beliefs of the people of Iraq. Even Hitler's attrocities in WWII can be traced to relgion.

Only when religions realize it IS just one person's faith vs. another, will this stupidity end. The world would be better off if we were just ALL atheists.

The thing is these people are only doing what they have been told to do by the best selling book on Earth. Jesus himself said to spread the love, which is fine and dandy, the problem comes down to those who try to force it on you. The Church has lost a lot of faith due to havnig most of what they say completely thrown out of the water, either lies early on or misconstrued the truth for theyre own personal agendas. The catholic church ruled the world for the best part of 1000 years. However science has shown that the earth is not the center of the Universe, and other such fact. Its something which strains on the morals of yourself, what you choose to believe, but the standards of what each religion is trying to show is for everyone to come together. Also you have to remember that the Bible itself is read in different ways to different people. The main factor being the story of Christ and his disciples, whereas recently ive heard it is the story of what happened before Christ was even around, a Galactical view rather than one being based solely on Earth. The strange thing is looking at a Galactical point of view actually ties the Bible in quite nicely with ancient meso-american stories of what happened in the past. Whether this version is true, or that version is true, the true story of the Bible itself is to make every human accept each other human, and unfortunately so many people misconstrue this that it ends up doing the opposite. Wars, greed, famine. There is no End of Day or Apocalypse, its happened already, is happening, and will continue to happen until someone says "Hang on a minute, arnt we all sposed to do the same thing and reach a greater good?"

Until that time arrives, each one for theyre own.

Hmm....well, first of all, a basis of faith, has a foundation that's lasted for over 2000 years. There's a few other religions that tout such a length, but a lot have fallen apart, or arent very organized.
Like Ted Turner's offering, he'd give a million dollars for the foundation of a new religion....because he hates God.
Arrogence can be subjectable, on both sides, because yes, most christians believe that life after death, and Jesus is the way to salvation. It's like calling democrats liberal, because 90 percent of them believe in the church of Clinton.
Simply put, arrogence, or faith, is one in the same....it's all up to the closed-minded person, on the outside looking in, to make the differenctiation of issue.
However, if you doubt heaven, do you doubt hell? And when people die, why do most visualize the light tunnel, moments before they are yanked back to life? Or if you happen to be looking for a real bad trip, read about the guy who had a heart attack, and was heading for hell.....before the doctors got him back....spooky stuff, and deep, if you're up to find out the truth.

This is not arrogance but a choice and a way of life. To be a believer in Christ we do believe and know that we will go to heaven.. there is no doubt, the bible is true .. there is no doubt. why would you think that this is arrogant?

That would be like me saying isnt it arrogant that the Athiests believe the bible to be false when they cannot know that. isnt it arrogant to claim that God does not exist and therefore there is no heaven? as again you cannot know that.

Get your point...kind of agree with you. I am a follower of Jesus Christ but being labled a Christian isn't something i like for myself. It's where i am in my walk of faith in Jesus, but being in church for years can make one institutionalised...it's been my experience. It sometimes means you can't voice your opinion without some people telling you your in sin, when all your doing is saying how you feel. As for the Bible i believe it to be Holy Spirit breathed. There are a lot of Christians who think they know it all and it even puts me off but all mankind is less than perfect. There is a scripture saying "the good work i started in you i will carry on to completion" what it means is when we receive the Holy Spirit ( the third person in the Trinity ) we are changed within and this is the start of our life-time walk with our Savior and the Spirit enables us to grow, mature and be better people but it doesn't mean we are perfect...it's a process....it's because of people like you that i stopped to take a look at myself and saw who i was becoming and didn't like it. Christianity is not a religion it's supposed to be a personal walk with the living God but sadly it all to often becomes a religion by this i mean (if you don't do it my way then your wrong ) I'm just glad i've got to this place of freedom in my faith. I don't know if you have heard the saying don't put God in a box, He is a great big God and wants us to become the the person He intended us to be there is much more to Him than we will ever know. I hope i have never been arrogant to anyone on here and if i have forgive me, let me know and i'll do something about it....(don't all email at once)....
Anyway that's me had my rant...hope this isn't to long for you to read...all the best...and thanks for your question....

oops the spellcheck is having problems!!
