I just don't understand why anyone would be opposed. There seems to be no justification at all.
Just gays are allowed to marry doesn't mean anyone who isn't gay will be forced to marry a homosexual. What's the point in opposing it?
Am I missing something?

It is homophobia. For some people to see a man kissing or caressing another man threatens the very fiber of their being. It is as alien to them as a six-armed, four-legged extra-terrestial from Prime Getty Six.

Their male homophobia is even more evident when it is acceptable for them to see two women kissing or caressing each other. Their acceptance of that scenario over the male scenario is typical of the level of threat they feel. The level of threat is proportional to the sexes involved in the intimacy.

My son is gay. I really had to do some processing to get over societal prejudices, stereotypes, threat to my own sexual preference and biblical bias. In the end--love won out. I love my son more than the Universe, and I would gladly lay down my life for his security.

Until people are able to overcome their own biases, they will not be able to accept Gay people for who they are. It is from our own bias that all the other isms, prejudices and hate arise from.

Until people realize they are just as vulnerable to the vagaries of biology and it hits their own family, they will continue to hate and discriminate against those who are different from themselves.

Thank goodness for me that time has passed. I'm happy with my life, my son's life, his lover and mate and truly enjoy our lives much better than someone who sits around and dreads this is going to happen to them.

Homosexuality is and has been and will always be a degrading, disrupting and corrupting influence in any society where it is found. Look at the stats. A successful society is based on successful, strong families, which consist of a MAN and a WIFE. The less of these types of families there are, the worse off the society is. Just look at the Romans. Were they homosexual? Oh yes, and they loved it. They loved it so much that soon all but the majority of people were having sex with someone who they couldn't make babies with. As a result? well, the rest is History. A great society is most often not conquered by an invading enemy. A great society crumbles from within, and this, my friends, is one great society that's getting shakier and shakier.

That is an excellent question! I am not gay, but if someone who is gay wants to marry they should be allowed. Churches will not be forced to marry gay people if it goes against their beliefs. I have been married for 21 years and I don't think that gays marrying will threaten my marriage. Why should it?

I am totally against a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman. We should not use the constitutions to exclude people from certain rights.

When a couple goes to a courthouse to receive a marriage license, they are essentially asking the government's, and by extension the American people's, permission to marry. Well I, and most Americans don't give our permission. Whether or not it's immoral (which it is) doesn't matter, we the people have the right to decide what is legal and illegal, and we do not want gay marriage to be legal, as evidenced by the average 70% passage rate of statues and state constitutional amendments passed in the US.

I can't understand why anyone would want to change a system that has been the bedrock of society for millenia. Why would we change something that is the best aspect of just about every society I have ever visited, the family? And that is what marriage is, it is the basis of the family unit, even if the man and woman don't have kids they have stood before their friends and family and made their vows. Flip side, tho, I believe that gay couples should be able to form some sort of partnership that could be construed to be the equivalent of marriage. Same same, but different.

The why is that Christians believe ever word in the Bible is the word of God. Somewhere in there it speaks against homosexual behavior. Thus, they believe it must be wrong. Worse, many also believe a gay or lesbian person can change if they're "saved."
Science has proven that there is no choice in the matter. You are what you are, homosexual or heterosexual. It is sad the much of our society is against gay rights. Our society is not very accepting of alternate lifestyles. Our land of the free to be who you are doesn't include everyone.

I think that we should define marriage as ONLY between men and women who are able to procreate. That means if a man is impotent, he cannot be married. If a woman is sterile, she cannot be married. If someone is too old to have children, they cannot be married. This will solve all the problems so that marriages only exist to have children and no one will want to marry their pets. Further, we should inject all youth with birth control drugs so that they can ONLY have children through a committed marriage. That'll solve the problem of those freaky gays wanting to commit to a life partner and soul mate. Ha!!

Unfounded fear rules the religious folks. Phantom rules set down by repressed leaders. Refusal to evolve past swatting at ficticious shadows. Choose one, that will be a suitable answer.

I am against gays being allowed to marry. You get married, which is a sacrament bestowed on us by God, to procreate...to have children.
Once we accept same sex marriages and that is common - are people going to want to then marry their pets? Seems strange now but that's how I think of gays getting married.
I am neither fearful NOR ignorant. I am intelligent and informed!

That's funny, I can't understand why they would even want to. Why spend your entire life living against the norm, and then want to do something that is reserved for the norm of society?
If marriage is an institution ordained by God, and you spend your life as an abomination to God, why would you want anything to do with it?
