How can one be patriotic toward ANOTHER country??? I suggest you look up the meaning of the word before asking such a stupid question. As for respect, yeah, you're just the epitomy of a person deserving respect. Get a life, moron.

Because Canadians are no longer ruled by the British and French. We became an independant country after World War I, and were no longer considered a British Colony. Sadly, to this day we still keep an Govenor General, meaning we are not completely independant, but we govern our own country and make our own foreign policies.
