It depends on the law of the land. The law in many countries especially the states are hardly based on the teachings of Jesus anymore and more on the practical problems of society. I think its enough these days that you can divorce if it 'doesn't work out', no real justification needed.

any reason for divorse lawful in the eyes of God... definitely no...
interestingly critizing a quick divorse was the way John the Baptist got in deep trouble and thrown in jail by Herod

But any reason...no..you cannot divorse someone because you fell out of love for example...

There is a controvery what Jesus refered to as what would be a lawful reason and people in good concience might disagree.

Jesus gave sexual imorality as one reason, but there is a ocntroversy where it applies to the Jewish customs of engagement but not marriage as it says josph was a righteous man and sought to divolrse mary but quietly when they were engaged because he thought for a while she committed imorality in getting proegnant
Pernament willful anandonment is often cited as a reason
Physical abuse is sometimes sited as well

We haven't been under the Pharisees' law for many a year. You need a valid reason, other than "I'm bored."

I counter with this:
"I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery."
Matt 19: 9
So, no, not for 'just any reason'.

Well, you can be united as one in church with God's blessing, but it takes a legal firm to get you out of it gracefully. Is that what you mean by lawfully?

he's got to have a legitimate legal reason (which can be anything from a 'disagreement' to spousal abuse) in the court. and it usually takes about a year. you have to be separated before your divorced
