My dog was taken to the vet after he was run over by a car. The vet examined and x-rayed him and said he was fine. After 4 days my dog went into convulsions and died. I have not paid the vet and she is threatening to sue me. I feel that she should not have requested payment after misdiagnosing my pet.

It is very easy for people to blame Veterinarians when things go wrong. After you took your dog home was she acting normally, eating, drinking, walking around? If not, did you contact your vet again and bring up any concerns? You should pay the veterinarian for her services, she looked at your dog, did x-rays, there isn't much you can not see internal injuries like slow bleeds on x-rays. She could have had head trauma in which case she probably couldn't be helped. Veterinarians are not miracle workers they can not see into the future or the past. They don't know exactly where your dog got hit. Services were offered, you should pay. They obviously thought highly of you if they let you walk out without paying in the first place. Don't let them down.

Sorry for your loss. I would be devastated if something happened to my dog. But to answer your question, I'm not sure, but I think it would be pretty hard to prove negligent on there part. Did he just run 'normal' tests? There would be no way to know without extensive tests (which most pet clinics do not have) and it would run a pretty hefty bill too, (which alot of people would not want to spend) It also would be hard to prove that maybe "something" Else could have been wrong with your dog (like epilepsy) that could have caused a seizure. Also, the vet if you tried to pursue may claim you were negligent and didn't have your dog under control and that is why he was hit by a car in the 1st place. I would let it go. To everyone: ALWAYS have your pet (dog OR cat ) on a leash at all times or in a secure fenced in area.

I believe we should be able to.the question is how can you prove that you were right?
A few yrs ago I took my beautiful healthy dog to the vet after seen her breathing with difficulty and refused to eat or drink for days.He told me that she may got a cancer in her throat and that happens often to old dogs. My dog was very healthy 13 yrs old and until that time she was very playful and swims daily.
When her condition deteriorated I had to sadly put her down. I discovered later from a neighbor that her son took the dog for a walk without my permission and she was hit by a car. They pulled her from under the car.
My dog could have lived if that idiot vet did some correct diagnose . All my dogs lived to the good age of 23. I hate vets, solicitors & dentists. They are money suckers.

i say you shouldnt have to pay if you took that dog in cause it was hit by a car the vet should have kept the dog for a day or two under a close eye to make sure it was ok she should have know that and known better then to look at the dog and send it home exspecialy after getting ran over by a car a person getting hit a hospital keeps them a day or to just to be safe she should have to

sorry to hear about your poor dog

Maybe at the time the vet saw your dog he was ok. If he had slow internal bleeding, that would'nt show right away.I'm sure the vet tried to make sure that the dog was ok-Complications sometimes arise, and there is nothing we can do. I know it's easy to get mad at and or blame someone. But really, if the vet treated the dog, the vet should be paid.

Are you sure your dog's death was the result of the accident? If the vet can prove that there were no life-threatening injuries you may lose.

I would think that you'd not have to pay if their tests were not complete. But you can always call a lawyer in your area most of them have free consultation where you can call and just ask questions then they can direct you where to turn next.

Sorry about the loss of your dog. I know it would devastate my kids if either one of our dogs was no longer with us.

Unless you have a post saying the dog died of something she should have spotted and was present it's gonna be hard to hold that up in court.

Definately get an attorney if you can afford it that would be true if you brought your grandmother in and she died of something when they said she was fine. Don't pay for a dog that was fine and ended up dead.
