I agree with James P. the most likely answer is some truth and some fiction. 2000 years ago there were many beliefs and superstitions which would be ridiculed today, they thought the world was flat belived in witches and demons etc.Ithink it was first written in arabic or hebrew before translation. but there is no smoke without fire, Best to keep an open mind just in case if you know what I mean.

Most of the people who make statements like "The Bible is a fairytail" mostly have never even read it for themselves!
Another thing to keep in mind, is that many of the eye-witnesses, (including Matthew & John) and belivers were had imprisoned or executed for proclaiming what they'd seen.
Nobody bothers dying for a fairytale.

Fairytale usually have nice little endings and everyone lives happily ever after. The bible tells you if you're a Christian you will suffer, probably be tortured and may die a horrible death in jail for your faith.

Also in the old testament stories there is a lot of rape, incest, homosexuality, massacres . . . Not really stories you'll like to read to your 3 year old daughter as she goes off to sleep.

And in the end stories in revelation you get revelations of the return of the Antichrist and all sorts. There is a bit too much gruesome stuff in it for it to qualify as a fairytale don't you think?

The main plot is false, but I like the chapter where that dude gets nailed to a cross. I didn't really catch his name...

Just kidding.
The bible is probably false, but it has strongly affected western society, and practically created the moral as we know it today. Some people believe in it and who are you to blame them. Jesus(yes, I do know him) is an inspiration for billions and many people handle their lives just because of their believes in better life that comes after death.

Faith was created to control people, so was the Bible.

A fairytale is written for the enjoyment of children so I'd have to say false. If your looking to classify the bible by genre I'd have to go with propaganda. Some might say fiction but propaganda is more precise a description as it is often a work of fiction written to lean a people towards a direction of thinking.

False.
Fairy Tales are make-believe stories with a happy-ending and some moral or humouristic undertone. Its a little nonsense to amuse the masses.
The Bible is full of make-believe stories made to cause great trepidation and much gnashing of teeth. It's a lot of nonsense to control the masses.
