This seems like an excellent point. There are an awful lot of expensive big churches going up while people are hungry and living hand-to-mouth. It seems like the only transformations they are trying to bring about are keeping people from having sex outside of marriage and helping enslave pregnant women so that their fetuses have more rights than they do to their bodies.

The answer is in the question: "Why do most U.S. adults CLAIM to believe in God yet make no attempt to transform our materialistic culture?"

very broad question you have there. we put money into houses, to cars, to clothes, to trips - materials that really mean nothing. yet the money given to us through employment that god has graciously allowed us to have should be spent on the people that have no house, no car, no clothes. taking care of the poor is a cornerstone of following christ. if we are not taking care of the other, we are not understanding christ message. transformation starts when we put our needs aside and help the other. in doing so, our needs become unimportant and inconsequetial....

I feel that there is a problem with every body pulling against each others faith . The Bible says "one body ,One mind And one accord".
It also says the body of Christ, not the body's of.
The spirit of competition runs ramp id even in the Christian community .

When we all come into the realm of unity for one GOD ,ONE body .Then we will receive the mind of Christ. But as long as there is turmoil in the churches against each other,The division will remain.

Very good question! Here's the economic answer:

We're not communists.

In fact, I think the Christian/Jewish God/G-d *wanted* us to be communists. See? Says so in the last of the commandments:

"You shall not covet your neighbour’s house; you shall not covet your neighbour’s wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbour." - Exodus: 20:16

That idea kinda kills the capitalism aspect considering that kind of thinking tends to slow down economies. So! Who's up for communism? Anyone?

Trust me dear, God has nothing to do with being overweight, adulterous, arrogant and obnoxious. In fact, religious people are perceived by free-thinkers as narrow-minded, bigotted and uncompromising individuals.

I am not religious and yet believe in many ways I am more godly than all of them combined.

And please, whiney Americans, don't rush off to Yahoo accusing me of attacking others. I have not mentioned names, organizations, or churches. Have the courage to think for yourselves!

It isn't up to believers to change the culture. It is up to believers to spread the gospel, and then the culture will gradually change itself. Why take the road to heaven, which may not be paved with toys, when you can take the road to hell, which is always paved with toys.

You can't take the toys with you when you die, you won't get to use them in hell; which is where you will be forever. In heaven, you won't need the toys, but you will live in a mansion.

They claim to be, but how many go to church or even think about it?

I used to claim to be. It was a conditioned response. Then I realized I was saying I was a Christian because someone told me I was a Christian.
