It will probably come across as rude to some believers, but it's just kind of an out-there rhetorical question... If you were made "in his image," why aren't you invisible?

Here are some definitions of what image means according to the dictionary

1. To make or produce a likeness of: imaged the poet in bronze.
2. To mirror or reflect: a statue imaged in the water.

Notice its doesnt say an exact duplicate.

I think number 2 describes the intention in the bible the best. a refletion of something isnt the real deal but looks like the thing that is being reflected... therefore we wouldnt be gods but our likeness is a reflection of his

God is a triune God, and we are triune beings. We are a spirit, we have a soul, (mind, will and emotions) and we live in a physical body. God is a spirit, He has a mind, a will and emotions, and he has a body. The bible mentions His Spirit from Genesis to Revelation. The bible also speaks of the mind of God. And it also refers to his face, his feet, his hands, his eyes, his ears, his fingers, his nostrils, his mouth, his shoulders, etc.

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost (Spirit): and these three are one. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. This is when Jesus came in the fashion of a man.

As for the bible being sexist, it is not. Man was formed of the dust of the ground, and God breathed life into him and he became a living soul. Then the woman was taken out of the man, she was made for the man because he needed a suitable helper. In the bible, male offspring are always referred to as SEED. The woman is the ground into which the seed (sperm) is planted. The manchild (the seed), when grown, will in turn plant seed (sperm) into fertile ground (his wife) and the process repeats itself. This is procreation. When a woman has a daughter, she gives birth to more GROUND. As the male population increases through procreation, so must the female population; more seed needs more ground in which to be planted.

Good question. I don't believe in any of that nonsense. However, image can mean a lot of different things: shape, color, etc. Who said he is invisible anyway? They (religious fanatics) have made idols of him in their minds. To some he is an old, gray-haired man with a white robe, to others, he has eyes of fire. To yet others he has the shape of a cow or monkey. Isn't religion just superstitious mythology? Of course it is!

A statue is made in someone's image, but it is not the same nature as the one creating it. That's why we aren't gods ourselves, and why it doesn't mean that we should be invisible.

How can God be invisible if everywhere you look you can see him and his greatness. That does not seem invisible to me. When God said that we were created in his image, it meant something really different.

It meant that were a special design created by him...can you imagine that. Maybe your question should have been why are we so priviledge to be created in his image?

Nah, that isn't rude, I've heard much worse.
I don't think you should think of 'the image of God' as a purely physical thing. I think that his image is given to us in his character. In that he has free will and so do we, he loves and so can we. etc.
For example, say you are writing a story. In a sense you are making the Characters "in your image". But while the Characters do not look like you, they are a part of you. Their character is part of your character because you created them and gave them that character. This doesn't mean that each one of them looks like you physically, but they still bear your image. It would be my opinion that it works the same way with God.
God bless :)

The Word was made flesh in Jesus Christ. In the Beginning was God, the Word was God and was with God, it says in Genisis. You have a spirit and a physical body, just as Jesus did.

Actually, the Bible says man was made in "our" image. Not "my" image. All of the other creations were "He created", but man was created in "our" image. Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

Our spirit is made in His image and at its deepest level partakes of His being, but our flesh is an animal's. For those who equate God with "All That Is", even our bodies are in his image. But you probably know these answers, don't you.
