Do you think Corgis make a good pet? Any funny stories? Are they easily trained and friendly?

Aww, those are nice stories. It's so funny that they think they're big dogs. I want one, they're so adorable! Thanks all.

They are herding dogs, and will nip and chase so they are not really good around small children.

They are smart and love people.

They also don't know that they are a small dog. They think they are big. Seriously.

They tend to be seen as "stubborn" and harder to train. But their stubbornness is really their independent personalities and self thinkers - like all herding breeds. When not provided with mental stimulation, besides physical, they can do behaviors you don't like, like nipping feet or being destructive. I think corgi's are fine for first time owners who are prepared for all that though and willing to put in the special touches for herding breeds! Add - Well I'm no corgi expert. My friend got a Pembroke Welsh corgi as her first puppy and dog owner. Her first year was pretty hard, but the dog is absolutely fine, no anxiety problems or destructive issues, very happy dog. My friend's a nurse who works the night shifts and doesn't give him a daily walk sometimes but takes him to dog daycare where they have agility equipment. Most people who don't know herding breeds well I read or hear call them stubborn. I think this is a wrong label for them.

Oh goodness I have a corgi! They're so loving and well behaved! They're fast learners too! I'd say the only bad thing about them is that they shed, but they are all around great dogs!

My sister has corgi's - her one watches TV (likes nature shows & ice skating) and does agility (top one of her breed in the country)
They are very trainable- if you keep in mind this is a 12" dog bred to boss around a ton of cow - or in other words their ego's are as big as their legs are short. If you let them they can try to rule the roost ( boss you around too)!

PS: that #1 agility trained corgi was a rescue declared by former owner as hopelessly untrainable!

I have a Corgi, actually. I love the pup to death! He does think he is a big dog - he often tries to assert dominance over our other 2 dogs, but he normally isn't aggressive unless he feels threatened. He was very easy to train and is very obiedient (sp?). Also, Seamus is very loyal to us, which is a good plus!

Go here for an awesome dog training program http://OnlineDogTraining.enle.info/?qySu

Since it is obvious that you do not have a clue about obedience training, your services should be for free. You cannot train even an adult dog for 8 hours a day. About the most that can be done at any one time is 10 - 20 minutes and that is with an adult dog and not a puppy. The attention span on this baby is extremely short and training session should be no more than 10 minutes and twice a day. Additionally, there isn t going to be much learned if you will only be training for 5 days. Obedience training is cumulative and is done over a much longer period of at least several weeks to several months.
What you can charge is determined by your experience, reputation, and accomplishments and in a case like this, should also include guaranteed expectations. Just working with dogs over several years, is not the experience that is necessary to be a dog trainer. There are too many people who are putting that title to their name and fleecing the public. Don t be one of them.

corgis make great pets if you are willing to give them attention i guess mine thinks it is a little deprived because he walks to my grandma's house almost every morning! my fault acctually don't get me wrong i would never hurt him but when i take him over to my grandma's she fixes him panckaes & fish & she even gives him ice cream so he is VERY spoiled! i also have a german shepard who is ALOT bigger than him but he tries to herd her it is soo funny to watch them play because he crouches sown in the dirt and pounces at the german shepard!
