Actually, I want to buy a dog after I'm finished with college, but I didn't want to say that because I was afraid no one would answer my question.

It really does depend on you. Your energy level, the type of space you have for a dog. All dogs require your time but some required more time than others.

You should do your own research on the breeds. Do your homework first. Asking here could be a start for you.

If you're planning on taking the dog with you away from home, get a dog that does not grow to be large. I have pitbulls and I will put one at a time (much easier) in my SUV and we are off. I take them to my mothers, the parks, to the grocery store (on grocery store trips, they stay in the vehicle).

There are a lot of small dogs that require grooming. Do you want one that has to go to a groomer every couple of months or so? They need to be brushed out, like, every day or so. If you are not willing or don't have the time for that, then get a short haired dog. Some small dogs have high energy levels and they are all over the place.

Go to google and type in : "dog breeds". Choose different breeds and read up on the different ones. Once you figure out what you want, check out the dog shelters and try to get a dog from there. The shelters have so many very good dogs and all sorts of breeds as well.

I have pitbulls but this is not my first time owning dogs. I don't recommend that breed for a first time dog owner. These are beautiful, friendly, funny, loyal, smart, child loving, high energy, stubborn (at times) dogs. They sometimes need stern discipline. They are loaded with personality!! I love pitbulls and at this point, I would not own anything but a pit.

These dogs, as well as, rotts, german shepherds, akitas, chow chows and a few others should only go to responsible people. Irresponsible and someone who is too young should not own a precious breed such as an american pitbull terrier.

Good Luck, hope you find the dog that is just right for yo. Then love and take very good care of him/her for the rest of it's life.

as the others say it depends on u and ur surroundings... what u do for a living also makes a difference, example if u get a pitbul or rottie or a supposedly agressive dogs like these u need to be able to be there for them through there puppy hood or they may turn out agressive but they can also be very loving.... if u live in a city u may want to think about a small dog that doesnt need much space, and if u are impatiant u might want an easy to train dog like a lab or something.... all these should determin what type of dog u want, i have 3 dogs, i have a big yard so i have big energetic dogs, im always home so i have a pitbul- springer mix...

I suggest a dalmation i hav one. Very good dogs. Although, they say 1 out of evry 10 dalmatians is deaf but the vet will tell u if the dog is. Ive had my dalmatian for 13 years and hes a good dog.
Theyre not too small and not too big.

One that fits your lifestyle and personality. What's right for me may not be right for you or my best friend.

I also ask - are you going to have hours on end to spend with them? Are you only going to be working 3-4 hours a day? Are you able to afford $1000 worth of emergencies at a moment's notice? Are you going to be able to handle housebreaking, chewing up your things, and cleaning up poop? What will you do when you take a vacation? Will the dog be able to live inside with you? All things to consider. . .

How much space do you have? Do you prefer big dogs or little dogs? Do you have children to contend with?

Are you an active person? What will you be doing with the dog? Running, walking, cross-country skiing, watching TV?

Yorkshire Terrier. And Maltese.

Yorkshire are very very friendly but they bark too much and they make too much noise. They can't stay quite for 1 minute.

But on the other hand...Maltese are much much better because they are quite dogs, theyre frendly, and they love children. They are NORMAL dogs.

it depends on you, where you live (neighborhood and type of housing), if you want a small or large dog. rent a book from the library or talk to someone who works at a petstore.
