The reports that plasma TV only last a few years refer to set made many years ago. Modern plasma TV is designed for 10 to 15 years of life. The phospors dim over time, but so do CRT phosphors (they dim even faster) as does the lamp that illuminates LCD screens. Plasma TVs do draw more power when they are on (100 to 200 watts more than an LCD, depending on size), so that adds to the cost of operation if you keep it on a lot.

They are about the same in price and last as long as your regular tube tv's do. About 10 to 12 years. Don't listen to people that say that you need to recharge plazma's after a couple of years, and they look like crap. It's bull. Plazma tv's aren't meant to stay on 24/7.
I did alot of research before I shelled out 3 grand for my 42" plazma.
Go to this web site and it will tell you how these tv's work and how long they last.

My TV doesn't cost more money per month on my electric bill than just running my old 25" tube TV.

No, but all you have to do is look at how many watts the thing is. I would guess the LCD is way fewer. Then do the math. A kilowatt/hour costs like 15 cents. So if its 100watts then it costs1.5 cents an hour to run it.
