I got fired from Popeye's today for using the n-word. A family of n-words was at the counter, and I said "How can I help you n-words today" and they got all offended. They like it when they call each other that on TV. I thought I was being hip and cool but you'd think that I had just run over their dog or something. I just don't understand n-words, I guess.

Even if the customers were not offended your comment was racist and inappropriate. Your comment could have been considered to make "an intolerable work environment" for other employees which is illegal. The company had little choice but to fire you.
From a customer's standpoint, I would have been offended, and I am white. I do not use that word and do not want to hear that word. Just as I would be upset if you had been cursing. The people you were talking to are not the only people hearing your vulgarity. If the company does not want to loose customers again their only choice is to fire you.
As far as being physically attacked, words incite anger in all races.
The fact that you said "Are all n-words so violent and animalistic that they will kill someone over a word?" Shows that while you claim the first time was out of ignorance you have CHOSEN to use the word again. This is sad that you do not have the vocabulary to be nice to others.

Persoanlly your a** should have been fired and not just because of the N word, for someone who talks about poop alot I sure don't want to go to Popeye's where your working your gross, second you can't say it because you white, personally I hate that word I dont think its exceptable for anyone to say it not even my own race but they do and there nothing I can do about that is it. I would have to say that you would need to understand the history behind the word in it's self and what we as African Americans went through in life to not be called that by some other race. There are some words that just can't be used by people and that word is one of them! I mean you wouldn't want a group of blacks around and you happen to be the only white person in the room and they called you a Honkie or Redneck! You would get all fired up and think that was disrespectful!

I agree w/ the others that was not the right thing 2 do. Personally I don't think that's a nice word and would never call anybody 1. But I don't understand why they go around calling each other the n word cuz I would be offended if I were them.

It is a double standard. When a white person uses that word,..just like in the days of old when only racists use that word on Black people,....it stings just as bad today, and shows a lack of respect, as far as most Blacks I have discussed this with feel. I am Italian, and I don't mind when another Wop calls me a wop, but depending on who calls me that, I don't know if a person is trying to be insulting or not..but I am not thin skinned, and don't really care about it because I know what and who I am. I am sorry your trying to be friendly, if that is truly the case, got you fired. A case of a bad judgement? ...So sorry

i can't believe that you would actually be surprised at getting fired. I am a white woman married to a black man and that word is never never never used in our home. That word was used to degrade human beings and is still used today. Unfortunately by young black people that should carry themselves with more pride than to use it even amongst each other. However with that being said, it is still used by friends to each other and we all need to learn to respect the past and move forward. I tell my kids if they chose to embrace ignorance then do it somewhere else. I don't believe there is another word in the english dictionary that is as offensive to me as that word. These other people are right you are bound for bigger and better things....an a** whupping that you deserve.

well I do believe that it has a slave contain to it. Because black people did not legally receive any human or equally person status until 1969. If you had to endure any kind of hardships as they did, or study any kind of American history you may have some kind of understanding. It is very important to have an understanding of history so that you can make better decisions for the future. I would fire you too.
