Why did God make certain humans so unbelievably beautiful and smart and talented and others so surprisingly ugly and dim-witted and talentless? And why did he make most of us a range of in between, average and afflicted with any number of disorders and diseases. If we were all made so "perfect" in his image, why are we so faulted? If he could do anything he wanted to, why not make us all exactly alike? Are our personalities and our physical characteristics and personal attributes and afflictions also the work of "the fall", "satan"?

It's true that in Christian religions it is believed that humans are made in gods image. Since we are so full of faults what makes god so perfect?

Ain't that an oxymoron ! A perfect god.........

My first question is "Do you actually believe God is handcrafting every human being"? If so then I think you need to go take some theology classes. Let me try to address your questions:
Talent - It has been my expierance that everyone has certain apptitudes but they simply lack the resources and oppurtunites to discover and or develop these apptitudes into talents for various reasons.
Average - The question of what is average is subjective and changes through out time and geography. "There is no true average" or at the very least it is a moving target that proves to be useles for any pratical purposes.
Disease and Affliction: Disease and Affliction is a bilogical reality of our exsistence. Some are man made and others are simply the result of bad genetics. I have no proof one way or the other that God causes or prevents these.
"Perfect Image" - Why do you assume God was reffering to his image in physical terms? In fact a large portion of Bible tends to be more concerned with the metaphysical and spiritual aspects of a person rather than the physical.
Beauty - This is similar to average. How can God determine what will be beautiful when we change our definitions physical beauty all the time. In Rome heavy portly women we considered more beautiful than the supermodels of today, In the victorian era attractive men were tall and thin and pale.

It is my sincerest opinion that God does not play favorites with his children, and the misfortunes that befall most of us are the result of either our own choices or the choices of our brothers and sisters.

You are assuming that God would have the same standards of beauty and "normality" that our contemporary media portrays.

It is interesting to note that it is the Industrial Revolution that not only standardizes and universalizes equipment, machinery and produced goods also give rise to the ideal worker body--male, fit, productive and non-impaired. Prior to this era in history, there was much less emphasis on a standard of "normal" and "perfect."

As well, prior to the industrialization of society, there was much more leeway for those who were less than "perfect" by today's standards...ie plenty of home-based cottage industries and marketable skills and services so that all, regardless of ability-- might feel valued and important to the community.

But if all this perfection and standardization is so great, why do we constantly seek out the unique, the rare, the one-of-a kind in art and fashion (and people)?

Differences really make the world a rich place, and it is much more satisfying to enjoy diversity that have everyone the same!

What we need is not for all of us to be the same, but for all of us to appreciate how very different we are, and how each one of us is special and beautiful in our own way --a delight to God!

good question! I think people have been wondering this for ages. All I know is that we are sent here to earth not to suffer, but to find happiness. However, we all have so many issues to work out before we will allow ourselves to live the way of happiness. I think God gives us each the personal challenges that we NEED to become the kind of person that will be happy. I know there is alot more to it. But I feel confident that God knows more than I do about it.

Our sin nature is the result of satan. Our physical and mental faults are to do a number of things.
1. force spiritual development. learn to overcome your own faults and the faults of your fellows.
2. teach compassion. your treatment of cripples and the mentally retarded is being watched. what would you like God to see?

we are all diferent individuals and what and who we are makes us so special... some people can have their good looks and just get by on that and be used all their life, but others who have the brains actually do something with theirs instead of just getting by on their looks and make a difference in the world, and we also make ourselves into what we want and how we see our selves in the world in such a great thing.
