Not everyone is against them, I for one respect all the troops no matter what branch they are in.

But then you have people like some a**hole like erudite on here that loves slandering the soldiers and making fun of the ones that have died. All I can say about him is he's a waste of space in America and he doesn't deserve to breath the same air as my son and other soldiers.

I dont necessarily think people are against soldiers. Some people think these men and women are foolish for fighting wars that most of the american people don't support. Some people think that many of these soldiers aren't old enough to move out of their parents house yet alone defend our country.
In the long run they are not fighting for our freedom because our freedom has not been jeopardized. What they are doing is falling into the system and fighting for a government that could care less about them.
So once again, I doubt anyone is literally against the soldiers, just the reasons behind everything. I myself am about to have my first son. I REFUSE to let my son get caught up in the ..."be all that you can be" crap. My son will join one the service over MY DEAD BODY!

Of course, most folks in the U.S., whether they are for the war in Iraq or not, support the soldiers.

Some of our soldiers, unfortunately, have engaged in criminal conduct, and if/when they are found guilty of the crimes with which they are charged, I would hope we would all be against them.

In the military schools, there's still plenty of navel-gazing over Clausewitz's statement that "war is the continuation of politics by other means." One way of looking at it it this:

All acts in war are political. Every foot patrol, house search, etc., may be under the watchful gaze of the international media. You must always assume your actions are for public scrutiny. If you handle a suspected insurgent too roughly, that action may have political consequences.

What this administration is finally getting around to understanding is the 24-hour news cycle. If you don't get out there and get your answer, your perspective, your spin, on record in front of a camera, you have just ceded the high ground to the enemy.

When our soldiers fail to understand this, and undermine the political objective of the war by misbehaving, and engaging in conduct unbecoming, I am against those soldiers. And I would hope you would be too.

Being against war does not mean being against the soldiers. I am against the political decisions that have our troops in harm's way, yet I wish for the troops to return safely home.

During the Vietnam conflict, people hated solders, treated them like dirt. Now people are afraid of the Bush Administration, they are afraid of being label as Anti-American. Haven't you been hearing what people are saying? 'We support our solders, but not the war'.
Did they say that during Vietnam? They were called baby killers, they were spit on. Freedom is going away because people are afraid of the government.
You are mistaken, nobody dare say they are against solders.

who have you seen being against soldiers? i think they are great for choosing to go so i don't have to... and i don't hold them responsible for following orders because the army has to be able to function. that is why i am critical of the government who has sent them on a mission that i don't think merits the sacrifice they are making.

because most people don't realize that sayiny stuff like "I support soldiers, but not their chosen profession." is the same as saying, "I support surgeons, but but I hate how they operate on people."
