Hey. Umm I know to open up the airway. Thats just common sence. And I dont need a brush up course because I am in level 9. I have to write an essay on the steps and some person told me bring it down and I thought that was NOT right. But thanks for the other answer with making sure there is nothing obstructing it. That was a detail I forgot to include. I know how to do it when I am like doing it on a person, its just when I am writing it down I keep forgetting because I am trying my hardest to remember those darn steps.

Rescue Breathing

The steps for rescue breathing include:
1.Check for Hazards/Dangers- The first thing to do is to check fro dangers such as
fire, wires, gas and glass.
2. Tap and Shout- Then tap on their shoulders and shout in both ears. Shout in both
ears just incase they are deaf in one ear. Tap on their shoulders
just in case they are deaf in both ears.
3. Call for Help- Yell the word ‘HELP’. If a person comes to help, tell them to call
911 and tell the 911 operator that there is an unconscious
female/male adult/child at the Watson Swimming Pool (if that is
where you are). Tell the person to come back to you when they are

they are finished calling 911. Then tell them after that go and find a first aid kit and some blankets. Ask them if they understand because may have talked to fast or they may be mentally challenged;according to Marya.
4. Breathing Check- Open up the airway by tilting the head back as far as you can without hurting the victim. Have your middle and pointer
fingers on their chin to support the head. Put your head above their mouth and nose so you can listen for breath being drawn, and you should, if they are in fact breathing, feel the breath on your cheek. Look at their stomach as well for breath being . Do this for 10 seconds. If they are breathing put them in the recovery position. See 9.
Not Really a Step but it is Still Mandatory-If they are not breathing, repeat steps 7 and 8 until they do breathe or the ambulance 9. Recovery Position- Put the arm that is closest to you up, like they are raising their hand. Next, lift up the leg farthest farthest from you so they

are bending their knee with their foot on the ground.
Afterwards roll them towards you. Make sure their head is resting straight on their arm incase they vomit.
10. What to do if Vomiting Occurs- If vomiting occurs run and get Jen. Just
kidding; have your hand under their head
and take your other arm and put it on their arm. Roll them towards you so they are on their side. They will vomit on your hand so theydon’t choke on it. After they are done, roll themback on to their back. Open up their mouth to make sure they don’t have anything else in their mouth. If they do scoop it out.

NOTE: Marya was my Level 8 instructor and Jen is my level 9 instructor.

check the airway, make sure there isn't anything in the way, gum, etc., then tilt the head back.

The head would be tilted back more.....but if the breath doesn't go in, you need to check and see if there are any obstructions in the throat. Such as a piece of food.
If there is an obstruction, it needs to be removed, before any breaths will go in.

tilting it back more will help. but, there are many other things to consider. if u hyperextend, there is a chance of neck injury if there has been cervical trauma. u tilt it back only until u think the airway is straight. in the meantime, someone should've called 911. emt will intubate. no time to waste.
