Amigo, this not-so-well educated AMERICAN of Mexican descent can not see what your main question has to do with your statement. But based on your other silly questions, I have better grammar and spelling skills than you. Your English teachers failed you. You WUZ robbed. Take care.

When I think of illegal immigration, I honestly don't think of any particular ethnicity. I mean, realistically, I know that the majority of illegal immigrants in the US are from Latin America, but that only makes sense according to our geography. My problem is truly based on principle, not race or ethnicity.
I actually live in China, so I'm really behind on what is going on in the US. Reading this forum and seeing some headlines in the news, I understand that there was a large demonstration by illegal immigrants and that the most prominent ones were Mexicans. I think a lot of people are angry that a group of foreign nationals living in and benefiting from our country think they have the right to demand more rights as illegals, and they misdirect that anger toward individuals and individual nationalities. That is very unfortunate.
I don't hold anything against Hispanics. I think people from Mediterranean and African backgrounds add a great deal of color (no pun intended) to our American culture. Imagine if we were all descended from WASPs. We'd be pretty boring, wouldn't we? (No offense to WASPs. They have also had a HUGE part to play in what makes America so good.)
I do think, though, that some people will paint all Hispanics with the same brush as a result of this. It seems to be a common reaction of humans in this sort of situation. Maybe it's our animal instinct or tribal instinct. Look at what happened after 9/11 with regards to anyone even perceived to be Arabic.

I'm in the same boat you are and I believe we are getting the short end of the stick, because of these illegals, giving the rest of us a bad rep is putting it very mildly. Prime example:
Recently my husband and I were looking to move to another house, 7 out of the 10 numbers I called had the following questions:
1> Doooo youuuuu speak Ingles? (you know, in that annoying patronizing tone).
2> How many people are you going to bring? when I answered that It was just my husband and I the following would reply.
3> Are you sure? I dont want to have 20 people living at my house, I know how u mexicans are... (Im not even mexican, my husband is 3rd generation chicano)
4> Are you legal? (that's actually illegal to ask!)
We ended up moving to a house that a friend of ours had available, the rest of numbers I called when they heard my name 2 hung up, 1 told me the house was not available
So yes, people have these stereotypes about Hispanics, to some, people like you and I are less than rareties

I have to agree with the others. The illegals are really creating and maintaining a negative stereotype. I have seen and befriended some very intelligent, well spoken hispanics that were worth their weight in gold. Unfortunately, the area I live in is heavy in agriculture so I see more of the migrant, illegal side of the hispanic culture and it doesn't speak well of the culture as a whole.

Living in Colorado and growing up in Florida(early years Miami), I know and respect many Latinos and their culture.
I get accused of being racist for some of my questions but the facts are:
- Many long term Hispanic residents have adapted to American culture and do speak English first. I know many who are more unhappy about illegal immigrants than any other Americans are. In the general public's eye, it makes them look bad and that is a shame.
- Most of the older Cuban immigrants are some of the most loyal, patriotic Americans around.

Some of the hottest women I've dated and some of the coolest friends I've had were Latino Americans, and on the other hand when I went to school in CA the majority of the ******* were Chicanos! It's about the person not the race amigo! If your illegal, do yourself a favor and plan your trip home because it is more than likely it will be a government planned surprised trip home. seriously

People now a days are quick to judge others by what someone in the news did. They don't take the time anymore to get the facts straight or try and find out for themselves if it is true or not. They much rather see you condemned for other peoples actions than to try and find out the truth. I guess society is afraid that we all might get along with one another and have nothing to argue about if we did take the time to know our neighbors and work with each other.
As far as they trying to make us look bad...I really don't think they care about what happens to us here. all they want is the money to send back to Mexico. so they can take care of their families.

No, not all of them are like the illegals. But some people think differently than me after seeing all those people protesting. There is a BIG rift between peope who are hispanic, especially Mexican, and other Americans. If we don't fix it, it will only get bigger.

I have nothing personal against hispanics or any other race of people who enter this country legally, and abide by the laws of this great country. BUT, when people enter illegally, no matter what race, etc. and attempt to ingrain themselves into this nation on an ILLEGAL basis they must have to contend with the laws of America. first, ILLEGAL is ILLEGAL, no matter how you slice it. If they are here illegally it is a crime, period. plain and simple, furthermore, any person, agency, organization, etc, that aids and abets the continued stay of illegals in this country is committing a crime, and should be punished in accordance with the laws as they are written and enforced...

Why should you care what people think about Hispanic Americans? There will always be people in this world that think we are nothing but freeloading criminals regardless if we are legal or not. It doesn't matter what other people think about Hispanic Americans or any other race, its what you think about yourself that counts. Be proud of the kind of person that you are and of your heritage. Don't forget where you came from.
