Like it! Old people are going to think of the TV show "Hazel" about a wacky maid by that name. No one under 50 remembers it though.
More modernly it is experiencing the start of a comeback (see popularity link below). I think it was 545 in popularity in 2005? Also Julia Roberts named one of her twins "Hazel Patricia".

I used to love watching this show when I was a kid and I still think of this "Hazel" every time I hear the name!! I agree that its "old fashioned", but I like it! Maybe as a middle name as someone suggested or possibly even a first name if it really fits with the last name.Good Luck in choosing!
Ha ha, I just saw that someone else was thinking of the same Hazel, funny!

It's a good name, I always liked it. I had an aunt named Hazel. HOWEVER, you do have to take into consideration the cartoon witch named hazel and the razzing she might take for the comparison.

I think Hazel would fit better as a middle name. Pick a real pretty flowing name for the first name and choose Hazel for the middle name. I like, Evelyn Hazel, that's pretty.

Whenever I hear the name Hazel, I think of 2 things: An old TV show called : Hazel, who was a housekeeper...not very attractive and kind of a "funny" busybody; or, Witch Hazel (the witch or the pharmaceutical ointment)...so, no I don't like Hazel...but how about an anagram of "Hazel"...Lezha, Elzha, Ahzel....I kind of like Elzha the best!

Very pretty...but when considering a baby name...try to think of the nicknames...in my family we have a Frederick that we call Fred and a Nicholas that we call Nick...so if the name was Hazel...it might end up getting shortened into "Haze"

I remember an old joke about an Italian woman whose granddaughter had just been baptized Hazel. When asked about the name, the woman said, " Of all the Saints in Heaven, they had to name her after a nut!"

Well, a lot of old-fashioned names are coming back into popularity. Maybe you can give her a more contemporary middle name in case Hazel doesn't catch on.

I think it was a popular name back "when". It would be un-fair in this day and time. You can almost tell a person's age by their name, except for the "timeless" names-John, David, Chris and so on. No trouble guessing how old "Tiffany, Stephanie, Debbie, Hazel" and so on are :)
