I wish I could remember the title, but I remember reading a story about a 1800's family that, in order to follow her will, had to bury their mother many miles from their home. On the way, while her corpse rotted and bloated and attracted vermin and disease, one of them broke an ankle. Not knowing any better, they decided to give the wounded boy a concrete coating as a cast. The acids in the concrete, of course, did even more damage and tore the skin off. They had additional problems because of illiteracy of most of the family members...

So maybe ignorance sounds like it could be a little hellish, actually.

If you remember the title of the book, please tell me! I read it in high school and have been trying to find it for years just on remembering the plot! I actually hated the book when I read it, but now it makes a lot of sense. There are a lot of ignorant people in the world and it contributes to a lot of misery in the world...

For the one who is ignorant it is! Well only right up to the part when they learn the really hard way.

For us who have to deal with someone who enjoys being ignorant, it's hell on earth.

There are times when it can truly be so. However, I wouldn't want that to be my general way of life.
