I have a miniature pinscher and he used to have 2 black spots on the back of his tongue, and I knew that to be fairly normal. But the other day he was panting and I noticed those 2 spots have merged into one big V....is this serious? Thank you for your help :)

No, not to worry..it is just the development of his pigmentation..The only time to be concerned is if the spots were raised..not smooth..

It is pigment. All my Newfs have some black spots on the tounge.

I think its normal, but you should check with your vet
