If the relationship tanks, you will lose a lover and a best friend. On the other hand, you guys obviously get along well now. I think I would do it, but start slow. Good luck!

Do the next cool thing and invite him out for a "Meet and Greet" at a coffee shop. Don't tell anyone your doing it either, surprise him and then meet up and really get to know him as a person first.
He will respect you alot for that and he will believe in you forever too.

It depends how you feel about it. Do you think of this person just as a friend or think of them more like a brother/sister?. If you like them just take it slow because a friendship can break easily in this kind of a situation.

Do you like him at all that way? Can you see him as cute or a good guy to date? Sure, go out. I would. You can be friends anyhow afterward, even despite what people tell you.

well feel it out because once you enter to that level of a relationship your friendship will never be the same but who knows they might be the person of your dreams and the one that you are destined to be with i mean do what you feel in your heart you know the old saying the best person to be in a relationship with is your best friend.

When the bells, whistles and butterflies of new relationships all go away, you will find that unless that person is a friend too, someone whose personality you genuinely appreciate, you will have nothing.
Try it and see how it goes!!!!!

He is only friends with you, because he wants to go out with you. If you want to - go out with him, he probably likes you a lot. If you don't want to date him, let him GO, so that he can get on with his life.
