JEEZ - PEOPLE...."THINK" >(if you CAN)

I can't believe the advice of these non thinking people. She's only 3yrs old and an infant (not 7 or 8) and she's afraid of any dogs. The last thing she needs is a puppy with sharp little teeth that will jump up, grab cuffs, shoe laces (and trip her) chew, nip, and bite. Perhaps you might try having her spending (gradually) more and more time with an older smaller gentle dog ....but not a puppy....not yet! Let her become familiar with dogs through TV, movies, cartoons, picture books of children playing with dogs etc.

Start by introducing her to children's books about dogs, find and talk about pictures you come across with dogs or puppies. A three year old should have some fear of dogs, you never know when she may encounter a stray, in this way fear will keep her from approaching the dog and possibly get bitten. Try introducing her to dogs that you know are friendly, i.e., family, friends and neighbor's pets. Some adults are afraid of dogs and have grown up with that fear. Your goal is to protect her, but also give her the opportunity to overcome that fear as best she can.

I was deathly afraid of dogs when I was younger, but now I volunteer at a Humane society and walk all typese of dogs. I think what worked best for me was I started out just looking at pictures and thought they were cool, then slowly work up to a small dog that doesn't jump, then maybe a medium, then gradually introduce her to a big dog, she'll start slowly getting comfortable around them just like me! (this all takes time, you have to wait untill she gets comfortable with a smaller size untill she gets to a bigger size!)

You just need to get her to know a nice dog. Probably a smaller dog. Like a beagle or something. Sometimes big dogs make kids afraid because of there size.
Hope I helped some! :)

Most children go through a stage where they fear things. Read books and stories to your child about dogs, watch television shows about dogs. Take your time over this issue, maybe in time you could introduce your child to a puppy,by getting someone else to restrain it, whilst she strokes it. Whatever you do,do not force your child. Praise her when she manages to conquer any small step forward.Getting your child a puppy will not resolve the issue.Small slow steps are sure steps.

I think you should introduce her to a friend's puppy first. How is she with stuffed animals? Stuffed puppies?

If she is afraid even of stuffed animals I think you should get a referral to a therapist who can work with her to eliminate a phobia before it really affects her life.

Some therapists believe this kind of thing can be a past life issue. Maybe she was mauled by a dog in her last life. A therapist can help.

My 7 year old was scared as well, but you have to get them as small as you can. Six to eight weeks if you can, so that she can gradually get used to them. It is in stages. My son will even pet other dogs now; not to say that he is still not aprehensive, but as long as the dogs are friendly, he will pet them. Our puppy is six months now, so it has only taken a few months.

It takes time.

UT recently had a Saturday where they invited children. They worked with children who were afraid. They also showed children how to approach a strange dog, all the dos and don'ts.
Call your local shelter and ask if they have such a program or would they consider doing one or working with you one on one.

My Daughter was afraid of dogs too, until we bought a dog. She is still afraid of strange dogs ,but not of ours. And now we have two of them and she loves them.
