John 3:16 says nothing about what "eternal life" means. It could just mean you will be remembered by God for eternity. Does anything say you will be spending your eternity with God in this great place?

John 14:2 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
4 You know the way to the place where I am going." 5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" 6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

There is much much more.. Why don't you wikipedia the word heaven and you will see much more..
2Cor 12:2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.
The third heaven is where God is.. First heaven is the atmosphere, second is space,

God is not a being so to speak. What God is is the spirit that lives within you. Furthermore I do not believe that heaven is this place in the sky where we float on clouds, dress in white, have halos and play harps. My impression of heaven is life where we are right now just that it is in another plain of existence where there is a paralllel universe of like minded people. Ase, Ase.

You're probably wondering what Vanilla Sky has to do with the title of the original movie title: Abre los ojos. Although I've seen both versions of the movie, I don't know either. But, vanilla is also a color, so vanilla sky describes a sky with a whitish hue.

Read Revelations Chapter 18 through 21. Even the Lord Jesus Himself said that in heaven there will be no marriage or giving in marriage, but that out bodies will be like the angels in heaven. You will no longer have a fleshly body, but one like Christ. Revelations 21:3 says, "And I heard a great voice out heaven saying, behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God."

I think that in human experience we see the sky as the greatest 'beyond' that is above us and unreachable [for most of human history, anyway]. For that reason it would come to be associated symbolically with those sentiments.

Yes it does, and we were(if you understand Genisis) originally intended to live forever as the pride of God's creation. And besides Jesus himself said he was going to prepare a place for us.
