I have an idea. Let's say we go ahead and keep abortion legal, but with this rider. Every woman who has an abortion, must be sterilized at the same time, unless it is for rape or incest, or because the baby would be deformed in some way, or her own life at risk (certification required for every case), No one can have an abortion without naming the father. If she cannot name the father, she must have the baby and it automatically goes up for adoption, and she must be sterilized. If the father wishes to take the baby, she must have the child and let him raise it. If he refuses, he must also be sterilized. Since both parties have shown that they want to have sex, but do not want to have children, this seems a fair option for everyone. In this way, we will drastically cut down on the numbers of unwanted pregnancies.

lol..yea that could work...I was thinkin if a woman is irresponsible enough to have multiple abortions and unsafe sex...she will be an iressponsible mother ne way....all we need is another poor, abused, neglected baby in this world.....

NO.. That I don't agree with. Yes abortion is horrible, but I don't think we need to take away the rights of women to have one. It's their choice. Sterilization is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Women have the right to choose. No I don't agree with abortion, but I know many women who have had an abortion and then a few years down the road go on to be great mothers. I do agree that the father should be made aware of the pregnancy before the woman ends it, but if he doesn't want to raise it, he at least should get the option of putting it up for adoption. If we were to implament this kind of thing, it would be as if we are under communism. It wouldn't work in this country.

I was pro- choice as long as I ever thought about it until recently, when ive discussed the topic with some freinds and am now undecided. There's the view point that we have no right to decide whether a human should live or die, at any stage in the pregnancy, and in a sense, it seems that lettin nature run its course feels right. Like if the baby is deformed or whatever, then it wont survive and thats the end of that.. On the other hand.. If I knew that my child was going to be horribly deformed, and i was going to have to spend the rest of my life tending to an eating breathing vegetable, I would opt to abort, save everyone the trouble, and I'd hate to have government or anyone else tell me that I couldn't.. I feel like killing is killing, and you can't really give an inch, because you're in a sense saying that its ok to kill for convenience. I guess I would kill for convenience then..

For many, if they could have the sterilization in the first place it wouldn't be an issue. Where I live, doctors won't even consider it unless it is a threat to your health until you have children. No matter how much you beg, they just tell you to use contraceptives. If we could allow this, punishment wouldn't be necessary in the first place. How about this, we put everyone on birth control, and allow no one to have children without obtaining a license first? We could create mandatory parenting classes, and use the income on the state level to support programs to get kids off of drugs or allow others to go to college for free. Beyond that, why don't we make it to where you can't vote unless you pay taxes? Students and retirees would be exempt. Just some random thoughts. Interesting question.

hmmm, its kinda intriguing but sometimes people who have abortions later change their lives around and can actually be some of the best parents to their children. Also, some women would prefer to have an abortion than to come forward and admit incest or rape. I wonder what would happen though if this idea or others like it were made very public. It would not be tolerated or popular or anything like that but it would perk up some peoples ears.

I keep hearing everyone speaking out against abortion, what about dead beat dads. How about we just castrate them. While we are at it, we should probably give an IQ test to anyone who wants to have children and if they can't score at least average on it, well then they just can't have kids.
The first time birth control pills or shots don't work, we should be able to sue the company and the doctor and they should have to support the kids. Women who get their tubes tied and men who get vasectomies and they end up pregnant or their partner does, I guess the doctor who performed it should have to take those babies and raise them.
I can come up with lots of plans just as equal in stupidity as yours.

your plan will in no way reduce the amount of unwanted pregnancy, and infact just add to the number of uncared for, unwanted children in the world. Or are you planing on adopting all these children and insuring they have a finacially secure and loving life?????? your plan will also lead to women opting for back door abortions again in which many women died from, so not only will your plan be killing the fetis your plan will also be "murdering" the women as well. Great plan hun, how about engaging mind b4 mouth?

The arguement is that you're controlling our bodies!!! Keep you're rosaries off my ovaries and just don't have one. You're solution is just another form of controlling me and I don't think thats right. You can't stop people from getting abortions, you can only help them not get out the coat hanger/the throw-self-down-the-stairs method. If you think that you're solution helps anyone, I don't think so. The opposers will still not want to the abortions and I'll still fight that you can't do anything to my body that I don't OK first.

And what would you do to the man that knocked her up? Isn't he also responsible?

I've noticed a trend. The stupidest ideas almost always involve massive authoritarian solutions to nonproblems.

The easiest way to end the abortion debate would be for people to mind their own business.

Do you live in Iran? Saudi Arabia? Are you a member of the Taliban? Hezbollah?

So taking away a persons decision about their body isn't enough, you're going to make it even more severe?

I think your head dressings a little too tight

I came up with prettymuch the same idea. It's a perfect compromise. The only problem is that it couldn't work because of legal issues with tracking things. Also, what if she names a father who isn't really responsible?
