I work for a general dentist. We do most of our wisdom extractions in our office. We offer a sedation medicine that, lets just say it puts you in lala land. We cannot put people to sleep because that is a whole different thing. But a general sedation works just as well. We use a pill called Halcion, ( I believe that is the correct spelling). I took the sedation med when he pulled my wisdom teeth. Works like a charm. I suggest asking your dentist if he is able to do the procedure with something like the above. Oral surgeons are great but are usually a lot more expensive. The only time we refer to an Oral Surgeon is if the root of the tooth is wrapped around a sinus cavity, or our schedule is too full to fit you in asap. Good luck with your decision.

I'd go to a specialist, I've heard horror stories about dentist's pulling teeth, and it usually results in the person driving to another office all bleeding and messed up because the denitst couldn't get the teeth out.

Most dentists today will not pull wisdom teeth. They will recommend you to an oral surgeon, who will schedule the procedure. It is an out-patient surgery done under general anesthesia. When you come to, your widsom teeth are 'packed' with gauze pads to keep the bleeding under control and to prevent dry socket. You will need a driver to and from the appointment that day. When you're released, you'll be given detailed instructions on what to do when you get home.

Oral Specialist.. that's what I used when I had my 4 done at one time. Plus they gave me medication to prevent the swelling afterwards and pain killers.

My dentist did mine. Since my bottom ones were not in yet and they did not have enough room to come in he decided to just go ahead and take them out. I am glad although would have like to be asleep. I still did not feel a thing.
