Bitter root. You can usually buy this at your local health food store..the ones where you can buy dried beans and such, in bulk.
Singers have cut a tiny piece of this dried root, and chewed on it.. or if the root is too dry, chop off a small piece and diced that.. make a tea of it.. sip. Oh, the name.. trust me, this is actually a very BITTER root.. Blah!
Otherwise.. I drink an herbal lemon tea. With extra freshly squeezed or bottled lemon, with just enough honey..
Also! Check out Traditional Medicinal Teas, found at most grocery stores, and perhaps even places like WalMart, or Walgreen's.. They have a tea that is used for sore throats.. I have used their tea as well.. with good results.
Do NOT drink, or anything dairy.. as that creates ore mucus, which in turn, hurts your throat even more..
When I have a sore throat, I also turn to chicken soup. Without the noodles.. I tend to drink my things hot, rather than warm.. or so my hubby says.
Hope you feel better soon..

neha! I completely forgot about vicks and the warm woolies!!! Good going!!

When I feel a sore throat coming on I get some lemons and lots of salt. I eat a lemon or two (like an orange or suck the juice out first then eat it) with plenty of salt. I'm not sure if the salt helps or what, but it's my cure!

Gargle with warm salt water. The salt will cause dehydration of the bacteria in the back of your throat and make it die. Do this multiple times a day. Also, drink lots and lots of fluids, take some vitamins, like vitamin c and zinc(immune system boosters), and get some sore throat spray or cough drops. hope you feel better!

I get sore throats 4-5 times a year sometimes. Usually I try to drink something warm or sometimes I take a little cold medicine before going to bed and get underneath the covers "sweat it out" as they say.

I'd recommend going to the doc's tomorrow because it could be tonsillitis and need antibiotics but while you are waiting I'd recommend throat tablets. There are some on the market you can get over the counter that have a mild anaesthetic in them that makes your throat go slightly numb and they are really effective. There are throat sprays too. Otherwise, ice cream, honey, anything cold or smooth but go to the doc's to be on the safe side. Get well soon!

Gargle salty water...do not swallow. Alternatively, if you have a mouthwash like listerine or corsodyl it is a good 'gurgler' too as they have antibacterial solutions within them. Won't do you any harm anyway.

Have a wee heated whisky with a spot of lemon (toddy) to cosy down for the night and all will begin to settle. Good luck and be patient, time is a great healer apparently.
