Simple question:

Who would win a war, the US Army in its prime or the Roman Empire military in its prime?

Remember, you are to be considering each as they were in their primes.

Let me see that means that the US Army can use the A-bomb which definitely make the entire Roman Empire into a mushroom cloud. The Romans don't have a shot.

USA, any time. The technology of weaponry alone is enough to turn the tide.
Consider the "evolution" of weapons and armor.
Midevil (not too far different from Roman) had chainmail armor, swords and bows/arrows.
With the invention of the crossbow, chainmail was replaced with solid piece armor.
Then guns were invented and most armor was abandoned due to cost and weight of material to defeat musketballs and bullets.
With the musketballs even in the revolutionary war, the US army could destroy the romans from a much greater distance and much quicker.

The US would beat the Italians today(which makes a change because the American military is a load of bollocks) but they wouldnt of done so back in the days if the roman empire(although the Americans werent even around in the Roman times)but it was the British who had the biggest empire in the history of this planet.

well if your using the equipment they had in there primes, well I would have to say the US wouldn't take even one loss. A single platoon with its full auto weapons would be able to cut down all the Romans before they even got close enough to attack.

if you mean with the same equipment, hmm well I think the Romans are better trained but The US military I believe is larger, could be wrong though, and if it is they would win because of numbers alone.

I believe the US Army in it's prime would win the war. Technology would be the major reason.

The US Army was in it's prime right around the Gulf War: soldiers covered in kevlar with M-16's and escorting M1-Abrams tanks vs Roamans covered in bronze with lances, swords, and gladii, and occassionally form a "turtle" for protection. AMERICA HANDS DOWN!!!

The U.S. We have all of their military technology plus advancements over the last few centuries. The machine gun alone would be all the weaponry needed for taking on the Romans. Besides, the Romans didn't have bombs.
