Well at my old high school students loved an all color year book. Personally, I think that in order to have an unique yearbook the concept of togetherness should be used; my old high school was very split and it was shown in our yearbook. Well I hope this helps.

I did yearbook in high school. We had a theme and a saying on the cover (for example, we were the eagles so we published "Soar on eagles wings" with real photos of eagles.

We had a row of small pictures vertically on the sides of sports, clubs, and senior superlative pages. Another thing we came up with was in the back with the advertisements and sponsors, we added vertical pictures on the borders to not make these pages so boring.

For each section, we used a variation of fonts and layouts. For example, instead of all square pictures, we used circles, ovals, and script like text fonts. A theme is a great idea. Our theme went with homecoming. We also put quotes on the bottom of all the senior pages that the seniors turned in to us. In the back, we had the seniors' baby pictures and numbered them. In small print on the opposite page the names were there. It was like a guessing game.

For the teachers, we were sneaky with our cameras and got funny pictures of them (they dance at foot ball games and the prom) it was funny.

Also, in the back, we had two pages on the "popular" trend (clothing, music, hair, places) so when we are all fifty, we can remember all the cool stuff.

We also made a DVD about 30 minutes long of footage around school. These are usually cheap with a yearbook if you order 200 or more.

I was the Editor of my senior yearbook (2005) and we did scrapbooking. Sound feminine but it turned out amazing. We did two different types of paper as the cover and had frames around the pictures. The whole book looked like a scrapbook. A lot of hours were put into it. I heard a lot of great things about it.

Do a collage of the senior class. Put all kinds of pictures of the seniors from various moments of the school year, crop them, and make it cool....that's what we did in our yearbook.

In the 40s and 50s, caricutures of some of the teachers and students were popular. They often poked harmless fun but were in good taste and good humor. You can probably find some examples at old or used bookstores or even the larger libraries.
