Ok I never had this problem before I used to meet ton of people everyday and I was cool with everybody making lots of friends. That was like 3 years ago. Now everytime I even think about meeting new people I get very tense and nervous. Like two days ago I was at my bro's house and he called up these 5 girls to come over his house and when I heard that they were coming over I got really tense,nervous,could barely breath,my face got red, my heart started racing, whats wrong with me. Any instance now aday that I meet new people,or even think about meeting them I get this feeling. I never had this problem before.Because of this I hadn't made any new friends in like more than 2 years. How can I stop this from happening in the future.

I've been that way for a long time but even goes beyong that. It's bascially an anxiety disorder. I find I get that way when I have to call someone on the phone, or when I would answer a question in school, or even just walking down the street. I was always afraid of what people were thinking about me. At the same time I was popular at school, volunteered everywhere, got great grades, etc. So, people didn't understand what I was going through because they just felt I was normal. they would see my face turn red but would just call me "lobster" and make fun of me.
Now that I graduate university and have my first career, which of all things involves developing partnerships with community groups, I'm having to force myself out of my comfort zone. I hate it but I love working at people.
It's the worst type of problem to have when you have the conflicting urge to be with people.
I think I know what your going through and how you deal with it will depend on you. I chose not to seek help more because I felt I could handle it. I'm actually to the point in my life where it would probably be nice to talk to someone about it.
It's really weird but really hard to cope with. I hope that you are able to find a way to deal with it and that yours does not go on as long as mine has.

I beleive it is from our own insecurities about ourselves. When I was young, I was so afraid that I would have to drink to even talk to a guy. How dumb I was. It made it worse, but I though that I needed it, because of my own low self esteem problems. I know one thing, don't count on anyone elst to help you with your self esteem, because you are the one who has to love yourself, and concentrate on all the good qualities you possess that make you shine above the others, and be proud of yourself. Do you have pretty eyes, a nice smile, or are you someone with a special talent or something wonderful to offer the world? You need to find out what it is that makes you different, and let others get nervous when they meet YOU lol good luck sweetheart.

I used to have that problem also. I would avoid social situations at any cost. I since then have visited a doctor and they put me on medicine for anxiety. It helped aaaallllot! Maybe you should consider it!
