That's all for your first lesson in french. Next lesson scheduled soon.
Au revoir

I would suggest that you live in an area where French is spoken as a main language. I know people that have French as their second language and moved to a place in France to use their skills and improve them. They stayed there for a year and when they came back to an English speaking place they were able to procure jobs speaking both languages fluently.

go to france, best way is an erasmus year (and find a french boyfriend/girlfriend!) or failing that, read any kind of material you can get your hands on, maybe read something that you've already read in english. sometimes it's easier to motivate yourself if you have an idea of the story first. another way to do it is change the language settings when you watch dvds, i find i learn more if i have subtitles as well (just means that you don't get fed up and have no idea what's going on) and every time you come across a word you don't know, write it down.

Someone told me once that the best way to learn a language is to find your self a boy/girl friend (whichever the case) who speaks that language. Then you have, motivation, need and interest in the language and you pick up on it very fast. If you already have a partner or are married, then, I don't know. Sorry.

Start like you began with American, or English. ABC's, numbers, children's books that help you build sentences and vocabulary, grammar & usage books. Classes can be helpful to actually hear pronunciations and help if you are stuck. Seek out French speaking groups to practice.
