Hello:
To answer your question posted on yahoo concerning a medication your doctor prescribed.
Try the spelling "Equetro". The generic form is called carbamazepine which originally was approved by the FDA to help control seizures. They now know that there are other benefits of this class of drugs. We are using it now for controlling bipolar (manic-depressive) disorder and some chronic pain disorders. Its mechanism of action is that it essentially slows down the transmission of neuroimpulses in the central nervous system.
I would try to google it with the above different spelling or you can go to www.webmd.com or one of the psychiatric web sites (American Psychiatric Association, I think it is www.apa.com or org, or when you google it, that site will probably come up.
I hope this helped answer your question.
Good luck.
Regards,
Warren Shaffer, M.D.
