I have never heard of a Dr. treating his own family member, in this way. Really, IF something were to go wrong, with either, the mother or baby, the "father" is really not in the right frame of mind to be able to make an unbiased decision. You would want someone to make difficult choices, in the best interest of both patients, as if they were treating a non-family member. Dr's do not do surgical procedures on their own immediate family members for that same reason. So, delivering a baby falls into that catagory. Too many problems can arise when least expected. Personally, as much as I would trust my own father, ethically, it is much wiser to chose a non-immediate family member for this important occasion. However, he could stand by, in case he might be needed....or just because it's his grandchild. ( but stand at the head of the bed) Good luck, whatever your decision is.

I think that it would be very awkward. i really don't see a daughter asking her father to help deliver a baby. I can see her asking him to observe and to make sure that everything went through ok. but not the actual birth. i feel that would be an awkward moment for the both of them.

Would you choose a family member or a complete stranger to deliver your baby, if they both have the same qualifications, I would rather have someone I know down there.

I think it's more natural for him to deliver his own baby than somebody elses.

i can see my mother delivering my baby but not my father. that's just too uncomfortable. unless there's nobody there and it's an emergency, then i'd rather go with a stranger.
