When I was baptized I felt anxious prior to getting i the water, but the as I got in, I was overcome by this sense of peace and comfort. As I rose, I felt refreshed and renewed and like huge burden had been lifted off of my shoulders. I felt brand new. I am not sure why you would have to give a speech. I was asked if I had anything that I wanted to say, but was not pressured to speak if I didn't want to. Just make sure that if you are gettig baptised that you are doing it for the right reason....the salvation of your soul....and stay close to people of God and get into His word, also it is very important that you get a prayer partner. If you can't find one, let me know and I will be happy to be your prayer partner.
In faith I will say Congrats and welcome to the family of Jesus Christ!

You might feel something such as joy, happiness, but we should not based our relationship with Jesus by feelings. You know that the heart is not worth to be trusted, as some Bible verse says. Trust the Bible, and believe that now you're being baptized by faith, your sins are forgiven. Sometimes we see baptism as a sort of a graduation, but actually it's the beginning. Your relationship with Christ is just really starting! You're declaring publicly your love for Jesus.
When I got baptized, I did understand what it means but not that much as I do today. So while you're being baptized, think about God and what He's done for you.
About the speech... well, as others have said, I didn't know that there were speeches but maybe it's up to each church. Give an honest speech, what you really think and feel, and not just an oratory exercise. I think it's better for a speech to be honest than to be a complex, oratory exercise; though there's nothing anything wrong in it.
Congratulations and God bless you!

It depends on the denomination that you affiliated with. For my denomination we perform baptisms at a river or sea. A service is held. You testify about the goodness of God while you are in the water. You make a vow unto God with your right hand lifted up. Then you are dipped by the Ministers. Right now you should be feeling a sense of joy and nervousness. Know how you feel. I guess the speech you are talking about is what we call a testimony. All you do is talk a little about who you were, what being changed has done for you or will do for you and what you want the Lord to do for you. Just a few words. Nothing formal etc. All the best and I hope you will continue on the new path you have chosen. May God bless you.

Okay, so you can laugh at my baptism story. This was half my fault, half my pastors fault. I was baptized in a lake, the current was strong and it was freezing and the rocks on the bottom were slippery and when my pastor tried to bring me back up out of the water, i slipped and he couldn't hang on to me. I made it back up out of the water, but we both got very wet.
This isn't a typical thing, though, just so you know. there is nothing to be nervous about. I gave my testimony and all you have to do is speak from your heart. Say why you are a Christian, things God has done in your life and that sort of thing. I talked about the first time that God really became REAL to me.
It feels just like jumping into a pool. Some people say that they can feel the Spirit and they feel changed, but I was trying to swim for shore so I wasn't one of those people, however that doesn't mean it hasn't changed me for the better.
Baptism is like marriage in a way. it is a public declaration of your love and commitment to God. It is a ceremony to announce the the world who your heart belongs to.
The early Christan's used to say 'remember your baptism' when someone was struggling, like we might say 'remember your wedding vows' if a marriage was having a hard time. You are a new creature in Christ and this is a symbol of that truth. Remember it afterwards, cling to it. My pastor may have dropped me on accident but the lesson there is that God will never drop me.
Don't be nervous, I was, but it isn't hard or anything. and chances are, you won't even be dropped ;)

Don't be nervous, just say you thank God for his many blessings or something like. I wasn't required to say anything but I know it's a tradition in some churches. Baptism is an outward sign to the world that you have become a Christian. The only thing that I felt was "cold." lol.. but I was very happy that I took the step. It's a great feeling in that regard.

I got baptized in the ocean, our church does that every summer. It was just a dunking under water, and to be quite honest, I neither felt nor said anything. The pastor does, he says I baptize you in the name of the Father, Son and holy spirit, just as Jesus instructed in the bible.
You don't have to be nervous! It's very nice actually (when it's warm out and the water is cool!)

Mostly wet. I have never seen a tradition where a speech was involved. There is precedent for a verbal statement that Jesus is the son of God. I can't think of anything else that might mandate a "speech."

baptism is simply an outward showing to the world that you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior you personally feel nothing. You are the same person. You should not have to say a speech and if you do just simply say I am glad today that I have accepted Jesus as my personal savior and I will continue to do my best to be like Christ. Just that simple Good luck and Congrads

Baptism is nothing more than an outward expression of your inward change.
You are simply publicly saying you are a Christan and have changed through Jesus.
It doesn't feel like much, but you will feel good about having done it.
