Starts at $10 per plate and goes up depending on what you want to serve. What is included depends on the catering company and generally drinks are a separate contract. Cleanup depends on the venue.

You're looking at a minimum of $1500 for the food, and more if the caterer has to subcontract with a party rental place for dishes, utensils, and glassware. The base price usually covers food, set-up, and clean-up afterwards.
Also take into account the facility rental, floral arrangements, and alcohol service, unless the caterer is equipped to transport and serve alcohol. A 15% to 18% gratuity may also be added to the base price, as well as sales tax. Budget higher than you think you'll need to to avoid surprises later on.
The estimate I came with is in Texas. California may be considerably higher.

You will definitely have to call around and get quotes. It varies so much by area. For mine, we had:
stuffed chicken breasts
roast beef au jus
sausage and meatballs
mostacolli and sauce
parsley buttered red potatoes
greenbeans almondine
salad and rolls
and it was about 8.50 per person, based on a reception for 225 people. This was for the catering=food and the servers. My reception hall, decorations, music, cake, etc was all billed individually since they were all separate.
