How does a phallic symbol oppress women? Is the Eiffel tower oppressive? Is the Washington Monument oppressive? I think you're reading too much into a standard Roman form of execution.

Where did you come up with an idea like that? I never heard of such a thing. First of all, do you even know what a phallic symbol is? It's something that resembles a penis. How does that remotely relate to "Jesus on the Cross"? And I have yet to hear of the Christian religion oppressing women. If certain women are that way, they've done it to themselves, or their parents or spouses have oppressed them. It's so easy to blame everything on religion or God. I get tired of hearing it all the time. Wake up and get a life!

The cross is a phallic symbol though, it was around for centuries before christendom started using it, Jesus didn't die on a cross either, the original word 'stauros' which has been translated 'cross' in many bibles actually meant 'an upright stake or tree' not a cross and there is no evidence that anything like the cross was used to execute criminals.

just take a look at the scene in "the exorcist" where the posessed girl is useing the cross to pleasure herself, while telling the catholic priest, **** me, **** me; and you'll see that a lot of people might have had the same thought.
however the phallic symbol is much older than christianity and has more to do with fertility religions that pre-dated written history. it goes back to neolithic times and probably predates them.

Women were treated equally as men during Jesus' era. The political system took a different tone.

The subordination of women to men in the name of religion is an innovation.

I am going to treat this question seriously.
The answer in one word is:
No.
In fact, until Christianity came along, woman were treated quite badly. It was Christ's teaching about love that told men to love cherish their wives instead of succumbing to the then modern thought that woman were, in essence, animals.

"However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband." Eph. 5: 33
