Hi,

I have a female Maltese dog that is about 7 months old, just recently we found there is a weird fatty-tissue like thing on the back of her body, and there is hair loss around the area. I was wondering if anyone ever had experience with this and possibly know what it might be?? I checked with 3 vets and they have no idea what it is, and suggest me to remove it with surgery. we did the needle test on it, and the vet said its not bad stuff, actually has a lot of calcium (?!) But I am just posting this to see if there is any luck that anyone might know what it is?

Thank you for reading this..
I've put pictures on the forum here...

This may sound funny, but my baby daughter had one that looked exactly like that! ...The Dr.'s were stumped..they called it a cholesterol deposit... and I was told to just watch it...Well, it gradually went away, and never caused any problem..no special diet or anything..it just re-absorbed and disappeared...It took about 3 years, though..

This happened to my dog to. She is older though she is around 10 years old and she is a german shepherd. At first when it appeared it was small so we thought one of our other dogs might have bitten her. So my mom cleaned it after a while we noticed that it was getting bigger. We took her to the vet and they said that it was a fatty tumor. They said that it would not go away but it would need surgery. The dog went into surgery and they took it off they said it was not cancer it was just a fatty tumour. She looks great now the only thing is in that spot she still has ot grown all the hair back but that is fine.

Hope your dog is fine!!!!!!

My dogs have had them. My oldest toy poodle had his on the left side of his chest. It was removed, only because it interfered with his walking/running. Our toy poodle girl had one on her hind end.. ..I asked for that to be removed because of her grooming needs. I was in there when they did the surgery. It looked like a - pardon me here - zit sack. The vet pinched it after it was out, and it was just like a big fat zit! Now, my husky/shepherd has one on her chest.. but she is over 10 years old, and it doesn't seem to bother her.
Though it didn't look exactly like the one on your dog.. I'm almost certain it may have been the same thing.
Are you planning on having it removed? I think if she were mine, I would highly consider it.
Why not contact people who raise Maltese.. directly.

Good luck to you and your pet!

Try www.malteseonly.com

Have you tried putting a fungicide on it? Could be ringworm,. I'd say if it gets worse have it taken off. That is not looking good. Some dogs also have allergic reactions to vaccinations, do not allow your vet to give any shots with Lepto in them, have them mark your chart. I go to tinytracks too.
