okay here is the thing i got married to an american citizen and filed for my green card like 3 weeks ago.today i gor my return reciept from the immigration office.can u plz tell me that how long is it going to take to get my social security nnumber?

The above posts are all incorrect.
If you filed for employment authorization (I-765) along with your adjustment of status, your employment card should arrive within 90 days of filing. Once that card arrives, you can bring it to the Social Security Administration and apply for a social security number. If you did not apply for employment authorization, you need to do so in order to obtain a social security number.
Keep in mind that USCIS must issue your employment card within 90 days of filing. If they don't, you can go to your local USCIS office and obtain an interim employment authorization card.

It will probably take a few months. When my daughter was born it took three months for me to get her social security card in.

Welcome to the USA.
It can take a long time. You may want to go to a local INS office and speak with them regarding the process.
You may need to file another form with the Social Security office to obtain your SS number.

my fiancee has been here for 15 years and hes still not legal but were getting married. he already has a social sec # thats easy to get its the green card that you need

it take a long time
you first have to go get ur finger bio taken
then the interview
then you have to pay all immigration fees
then you have to wait if ur case is approve
and then u have to show edvience that you have a legak marriage
there a lost of thing to do!!
its not easy

it takes really long time... find out in google about this... or much better enter to forums where theres alot of ppl who can help you or had been tru ur situation and can give you tips...

you can go get one today if you need it. SS card dont need green card to get just proof your not illegal.
