Nah, they're just a bit of fun. However, this actually happened to me. I got a fortune cookie once that didn't have a fortune in it. Exactly one week later, at a different restaurant. I got a fortune that said "Sometimes fortune cookies have no fortunes."

No, seriously, I don't take them; the waitress usually gives them to me. The message is fun but that's all. I often don't even eat the cookie.
