I did the same thing. I washed it a couple more times and it eventually lightened up to the proper brown that I wanted.

I would wash it a few times with clarifying shampoo, but other than that it will be difficult. It is really hard to lighten colored hair without bleaching it. I once dyed my hair too dark and I had to put a whole bunch of streaks in it and then redye it the lighter color.
I would wait for it to fade and then dye over it with a light brown dye.

Why did you dye it, if you just want it back to the same color again? Besides, is there really that much difference between black & dark brunette? I thought dark brunette WAS pretty much black.

Wait a few days, sit out in the sun and wash your hair. It will start to fade a bit. If that doesn't work, go to a salon and have them put in a few brown highlights to make it appear less dark.

Once you die your hair it is a done deal, especially if it comes out black, always look on the box and match it to the color of your hair it will tell you the outcome of the die. Was it permanent die or rinse, that will make a difference. You might have to have it stripped and that is not good to have done, to go a lighter shade.

Whatever you do, don't dye your hair over again. It will not come out good. Maybe try highlights in a blonde color to make it lighten up. Or try washing your hair a few times. This helps getting some of the access color out!

I wouldn't advise using any more chemicals on your hair right now...but a clarifying shampoo will strip some of that color out and will make it lighter.
