my 14 y/o is the same way: i have to keep nagging at him to do anything at all and when he finally does do it, he does it with an attitude that at times makes me angry. but then i remember how i was at that age--- i did take showers regularly, i just didn't feel right going to sleep all sweaty and sticky--- but i still did things with an attitude also. my mother always said to wait until i had children of my own then i'd see. guess what? she was right! hang in there , though. like all things in life, this too will pass. just don't insult him or calling names though; at this age, their egos are still forming and quite fragile. it doesn't seem like it now, but yrs later both of u will be able to sit down and laugh about it. enjoy it, though, cause they're teenagers only once.

You're talking about a teenager!!!!!!!! AND a boy at that!!
He'll come around. I went through this with my 2 boys. Once he really discovers girls and the fact that they don't like "smelly" boys, you won't be able to keep him out of the shower.
Besides, at 13, no boy has common sense. It's the nature of the beast.

Much sympathy for you. I have one also. Fortunately he gets decent grades and no girls are knocked up so I will remind him to shower and put the milk away for a while yet and be grateful that I am not the mother of a drug using skirt chasing drop out.

Men in general don't have common sense. If they used half the brains they were born with, the world wouldn't be ****** like it is.
My brother was like that. He grew out of it, but he still acts retarded...apparently that's funny to guys.

It gets worse. I have a 15 year old son. He was neat and always clean when he was younger. Know he sleeps all day. Won't take out the trash, leaves plates of half eaten in his room. Its awful I can't stand to go in his room.

Ah yes-the thirteen y/o boy can be very absent minded due to hormones racing through his body and all the other things bugging them. High school-dating-chores-athletic events at school-so many things to divert the young mind. He will eventually grow out of it. Remember when you were 13?

Do you verbally abuse your son? He's just a typical 13, yr. old boy... You can't expect him to act like an adult, because he isn't..If he is treated as if he were stupid, why wouldn't he 'act" stupid

That's normal. Calling him names and saying bad things about him is the worst thing you can do. Compliment him every time he does something right--he IS listening.
